Hey there dakka, so I've finally decided what army to play and I've decided to play chaos space marines(as I love their models and playstyle) and for painting them I wanted to paint them in a way to represent the original 9 traitor legions. But I wanted to know from a gameplay and fluff perspective which units should be which legion. Heres what I have:
World Eaters: berzerkers and other khorne stuff
Death Guard: plague marines and other nurgle stuff
Emperors Children: Noise marines and slanesh units
Thousand Sons: rubric marines and tzeentch
Night Lords: any jump pack units
Alpha Legion: Idk possibly chosen
Word Bearers: Idk possibly possessed
Iron Warriors: Idk possibly vindicators and oblits
Black Legion: Everything else

So here's what I got. Feel free to post input and help me out please! Thanks guys

gonna be a big ass army.. my advice would be to focus one one or maybe 2 of the legions, or, if you wanted to represent everyone, maybe a black crusade army, made up of black legion with the divided chaos allies.

You know some chaos groups don't get along on the battlefield. Fluff or no fluff.

You're gonna have a huge army, but I'd add:

Thousand Sons: Sorcerer, Rubrics and Tzeentch
Iron Warriors: Havocs and Daemon Engines, Chaos Techmarine Equivalent, Vindicators
Alpha Legion: Cultists and Chosen
Word Bearers: The Chaos Chaplain Equivalent, Possessed

During the heresy they used "Iron Havocs" the first true havoc squads, a specialist form of heavy weapon unit

They also have a penchant for creating, i.e. daemon engines

The Iron Warriors are the lords of siege warfare, so any big guns would probably suit them well.
