That is very cool. NIce idea and great execution so far.

Thank you for the kind words. Hopefully a lot of milliput and a decent paint job will tie it together well enough to give it credibility.

Small update: Right foot is glued up but not attached to the lower leg. I might put an actuator on the 'big' toe. /shrug The cockpit still needs to be reinforced with plasticard/greenstuff to provide a better seat for the shaft. 1000 Internet Points if you tell me what brewery the pint glass is from! I am concerned that the knight won't look like its weight is over the foot. I have the ability to adjust the legs a bit and hopefully that will be enough.

Thanks for looking!

Do I win the internet points!?!?!

Also, this thing looks amazing. Please keep posting updates. Can't wait to see it finished and painted!!!!

Yep, you win! Good luck spending them!

Thanks for the compliment. I'm well aware that what I do is pretty amateurish, but I do as best I can. So, it's nice to get encouragement.

Update: 12/8/14

Both feet modeled and glued down to plasticard (which will eventually be glued to whatever I use for a base--mdf probably). Still working on armor for the top of the foot. Also considering adding 'claws' to the tips of the toes. /shrug

The legs are not glued to the feet yet. Sad-looking Ulthwe Guardian included for scale.

Update: Chassis needs detail work (with means, 'bits added to cover ugly gaps and etc.'), but is mounted to legs. I moved the 'hip' up higher because it looks better. Weapon mounts on top are magnetized. Possibility of adding crab claws, or some arm-like thing, remains. [Edit: Added a pic with a Fire Warrior, for scale.]

Looks really cool! Especially like the cannon. Any thought about if or how you will model the CCW?

Also, how does the height compare to a stock knight? It looks similar, but all the height in the legs is throwing me off.

It's an inch and a bit shorter, I think. In the original plan for where the 'hips' were going to be, it would have matched up just about exactly.

It's not impressive, but I'm going to model some Plasma Welder Drones and pretend they're 'overcharged' (so that they do 'D' damage), based on the idea that the chassis was originally for deep-water construction. I'm still sitting on the idea of a manipulator arm (crab-like maybe) in one drone slot and a Fusion/Plasma welder-looking-arm in the other.

Thanks for looking!

Very impressed by this so far sir! Great idea, execution, and painting to this point. Also, is it just me, or does this guy remind anyone else a bit of metal gear Rex (which is awesome IMO!). Nice job, can't wait to see him finished!

I can't take credit for any of the painting--the Devilfish chassis was donated (already painted). As for the Metal Gear Rex; sure. I think it also has some Battletech 'looks' as well.

Thanks for the compliment!

Another minor update. How does this look for a Tau 'Imperial Knight: Crusader'? Yes, it's sitting on a trivet on my stove top. Best light-box ever.

The crotch-gun is the rapid-fire battle cannon. The air fragmentation bit (that I've never seen used) is standing in for the heavy flamer. the missile pods are the heavy stubbers. Can you guess what the heavy burst cannon is posing as?

Not a real update, but got a chance to put it on the table (and stand it next to an actual Crusader):

Awesome,

I was looking for a gundam model to convert - this is way better.

Thanks! It's a stupid amount of work for not very much return on the investment, as far as I'm concerned. I did it because a) I thought a Knight would make a good ally for the Tau and b) I'm cheap and wanted to see if I could do it with bits-on-hand and only spend about $25. If I had more money than time, I'd have definitely gone a different direction!

Update (January 23, 2016): Adding embellishments to convert my conversion into a Storm Surge. I plan to call it a 'Storm Fish' or 'Devil Surge'. There are 16 missile pods (paired up) mounted on the legs (think big missile-splosion gundam or something) to represent the rocket launcher system. There are four new-style seeker missiles on drones to represent the four Destroyer missiles. The twin-linked SMS and twin-linked Burst Cannon are on top.
