The planet and the moons once were capable of sustaining life (specially the moons). That means a lot of water, breathable atmosphere and plenty of the minerals needed for life. Those resources aren't destroyed by nuclear weapons, so they should still be there and the Tyranids will harvest them. Radiation is not an issue for Tyranids.
