I was crushed (though not surprised) when Malys was cut from the latest Dark Eldar codex. That her role in the fluff has been expanded (from merely Vecht's angry GF to his chief rival) has dabbed salt in that wound. So I've decided to try my hand at bringing her back, in a more formidable form then before!

The Lady's Blade
Strength: User / AP: 3 / Type: Melee, Sentient Weapon*
*Before rolling to-hit with the Lady's Blade, roll a d6. Malys' attacks characteristic is increased by the amount rolled for the duration of the turn. On a roll of a 1, the Lady's Blade rebels against Malys, granting her no additional attacks for that turn nor for the rest of the game.

Precognisant

Crystal Heart
Lady Malys and her unit may not be targeted by friendly blessings. Malys and her unit receive a +2 bonus to deny-the-witch rolls when targeted by an enemy psychic power.

Precognisant
Lady Malys has a 4+ invulnerable save. Furthermore once per game, after rolling for reserves but before deploying them, you may choose to bestow the outflank USR to all units arriving from reserves that turn. You may choose which board edge they deploy from.

If Malys is your warlord, do not roll for her trait. She automatically possesses the Labyrinthine Cunning warlord trait.

How does the "you may choose to outflank" interact with deepstrikers? Cause iirc you're supposed to nominate if a unit is going to deepstrike during deployment phase. Why not just get an allowance to give a unit or d3 units outflank? And instead of "you may choose as if they've got a Snikrot in there" with possibility to outflank from a rear just give them accute senses.

I imagine precognisant would just overrule the BRB, as codex special rules are wont to do.

I had considered giving acute senses instead, and still may do so. My reluctance for doing that, along with making the outflank bestowment a dice roll, is that randomness is imo bad design.

I wouldn't have even given her the daemon weapon-esque rules if her already high 6 attacks base on the charge didn't anchor the range in her bonus attacks roll. But even with all the bonus attacks she's hardly a beat-stick (2 dead marines/4 guardsmen on the charge with average rolls), and the majority of her points return will come from her role as a force-multiplier. With that being the case, 160 points to potentially roll a 1 and give a single unit outflank, once per game, is unacceptable. A special character's abilities should be reliable enough to plan a strategy around, and the randomness of abilities like Huron's Master of Deception or d3 outflank are too unreliable, imo.

I could see putting a hard cap like "up to 3 units may be given outflank" if it seems like someone could abuse the rule and outflank like 10 units in a single turn, but beyond that I'm hesitant to add more dice rolling into a game that's already bloated with dice rolling.
