So I'm going up against Necrons on Thursday. The only thing I know is he will be bringing a C'Tan Transcendent thingy. The one not in the vault I believe. Here's my list:
I'm Bringing this list mostly because these are about all of the models I have that are assembled. I also have a manticore, but I don't think it would have much use vs 3+ saves.
So the only thing I really know is focus fire the squads because they can revive if you don't wipe them, and the C'Tan has lots of big blasts that insta-kill so spread out some. Other then that, I've never really fought Necrons. Any advice is appreciated. No idea if we are playing a mission or meat grinder.
My goodness.
The enemy will bring the Trans. Ctan.
This thing is difficult to kill in normal terms. You need S6 weapons to scratch it. Poisoned weapons and sniper rifles also don't help much.
Moreover, D weapons can kill it rather easily but as far as I could see you have none.

I really hate to say it, but you will have quite a few issues facing necrons. The basic necron weapon is great anti-tank, with 6s automatically glancing and trans. c'tans are ridiculously difficult to deal with, especially if you do not have a super heavy of your own. The manticore may be your best bet, even though on ap 4, still wounds it on a 3 and you just need to cause as many wounds as possible. Though it has a 4++ ,and FNP and IWND just for being a super heavy, so yes manticore will be great, but I recommend getting a Str. D weapon if possible.
As i see it, your only hope vs him is to 1-shot the guy. With as many at-weaponry as possible. And everything must be geared towards it. And it must get within your los as it's a small model and can completely hide behind a ruin. And you must get better than average rolls. T9 3++ 5+++ 6 wounds are not that easy to kill. If you fail to 1-shot it, it's gona flame half of your army to death and the rest of his crons wil finish you off. So, if you fail with this damage burst - you're dead.
Another option is to go for the points and hope the game ends on turn 5.

Demand that if he's allowed a Superheavy, so are you, then proxy either one of the Baneblade variants that can put it down (D-Weaponry is good, a few other things will work.) or a Revenant.
Escalation is fun for a change of pace, but both players should be having fun, y'know?
Otherwise... You're dead. I took a Transcendant C'tan alone against 1000 points of mechanised guard to test it out, went easy on the army because I wanted to try all of the options inherent in a Gargantuan Creature out, and at the end of the game one tank with a single hull point left and a destroyed main weapon was fleeing flat out behind line of sight obscuring terrain. Everything else was flattened. The C'tan had lost two wounds.
Well, I use my Trans. Ctan regularly in our apoc games.
It goes down rather easily against D weapons but otherwise it's a pain to deal with it.
And if it goes down, it will take a lot of models with it within 4D6 inches.

Which makes D-ing it on turn one in escalation hilarious, if a little mean spirited. Win the game right there.
Also watch out if your opponent brings a monolith and keeps the C'Tan in reserve because it can then pop out the front right in your ranks to cause pain.
As a necron player what I hate is having to face targets spread across the board.
Split your units into 2 groups and keep them apart. Try to make them mutually supporting with terrain - look for large killing areas.
INfantry are better than tanks for dealing with necrons. Tanks have so much overkill against warrior who get back up anyway. Far better to have infnatry taking entire units out.
C'Tan are tough but not invincible. I lost on to a monkey with a lascannon (presumably shooting on from is arse!). Assassins can fire shells that remove invincible saves. Then kill it with infantry firepower.
