Hello everyone, by christmas i should receive son MK IV space marines and i'd like to start a sons of horus army, since i already have Horus.
I was wondering if you could give me some advices about the colour scheme, since the guide i've found from Forgeworld is quite hard to apply for my (scarce) abilities!
I'm thinking of using Kabalite Green and sotek as base layer (above a black primer) but i really don't know which colour to use to shade (i was thinking about something between gree and dark blue, or sybarite green otherwise).
Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I would say that ForgeWorld is pretty spot-on with their color scheme. But instead of mixing all of those colors for a basecoat, you may want to try Vallejo light green (http://scale-models.nl/cc-vallejo.html) seems to be the appropriate match. It certainly will take a few tests to get the right color if you're looking for a single bottle. Personally, I'd just go with ForgeWorld's recipe and do some scratch tests until you're happy with the results, then just mix a bunch and throw it into a bottle to keep the blend consistent among your troops.

As far as shades go, they suggest Colia Greenshade. I never used this wash so I don't know how it will appear as the final result. I would keep some Nuln Oil handy if it conforms to the basecoat too much, which is my suspicion.

Bit late to the party but your original paint choice is pretty close to what I used:

Prime Blade
Airbrush Kabalite Green
Airbrush highlighted with Sybarite Green
Coelia Green Shade Wash

Wow. Looks incredibly close to the Forgeworld Sons of Horus paint job where they blend 4 different colors to achieve almost the same exact effect.

When I wanted to do my Sons of Horus I wasnt much upto blending, but the airbrush method worked well enough.

Noteworthy point! Keep in mind, sedobren (OP), that he achieved his results using an airbrush, so if you're using a standard paint brush, be aware that you may not achieve the same coloration as in my experience airbrushed colors tend to have a slight hue variation compared to a paint brush depending on various factors.

First: Melcavuk your models are really well done! i really like them and that's kind of the effect i was looking for (lets say i'm light years way before anything near to a heavy metal team and their guide is a little bit over my abilities)

A friend of mine was actually saying to me that he could lend his airbrush to me so i could do the SoH vehicles, so maybe i could just use it for the whole army and the add some metal scratches with the paint brush.

The only think i don't quite understand is: how do you highlight stuff with an airbrush?

p.s.: what do you think about using GW black legion's shoulder pad instead of FW ones (which i forgot to order btw)?

Drectional spraying with the airbrush is the best way to get a natural highlight from above. Literally just ensure you are spraying from a higher angle down onto the model to highlight the areas that the light would better reach, its a nice way of getting a smooth and natural blended highlight on a model.

If you're airbrushing vehicles look up things like sand weathering techniques for natural chipping effects.
