What makes up a "Fat Dash"? I'm guessing Dash with a Heavy Blaster and Outrider. This would let Dash shoot 360 at range 2 and 3 and he then loses his primary weapon. Would this mean that the solution to beating him is simply staying at range 1?

Also if I have a ship that overlaps rnage 1 into 2, could it then be shot at because it is partially in range 2?

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

Fat Dash is:

Dash Rendar (YT2400)
- Heavy Laser Cannon
- Outrider
- Push the Limit
- Kyle Katarn
- Engine Upgrade

So yes, Dash shoots at Range 2-3 with the HLC, but has enough maneuverability (most of the time) using PTL to boost+roll into those ranges, all without having to worry about obstacles. He does indeed have a range 1 "blind spot".
When he uses a green maneuver, he picks up focus while shedding the stress thanks to kyle Katarn. Essentially, it's like getting three actions in a turn.
And it's all turret shooting with no bonuses to manuever rolls at range 3 since HLC is a secondary weapon.

If you have a ship overlapping range 1-2, it's closest distance from shooter to target; you cannot "select" the part of the ship that's further away.

...Why is it called "Fat Dash"?

Q: What do you call a Dinosaur Handpuppet?

Because he's a big fatty that is loaded up with a lot of junk in his trunk and he eats up all your points.

"Fat" because he's fully loaded.

And yup, he comes in at 58 points. Which really isn't too bad for what you get.

What does everyone think about running Fat Dash with:

Etahn A'Baht E-Wing
Marksmanship
FCS
R2
Experimental Interface

Puts the list at 99 points. Etahn is a damage powerhouse allowing a barrel roll, evade or target lock AND marksmanship, usually generating at least 2 crits due to marksmanship and his pilot ability. Dash can take advantage of his pilot ability on the HLC sometimes, too.

Could work, but you might be overwhelmed against a Tie swarm or a rebel bwing heavy list - those crits won't mean much if you don't get through their sheids before it's destroyed. Running two big ships with a lot of hit points is one thing, but running two ships where one of them is a fighter seems like you could be down to just fat dash pretty quickly.

To answer the OP's question...

Pretty good article, and explains exactly what this build can/cannot do, including a lot of the intricacies.
I've played a few games with this build, and it is very effective. I usually add Jan Ors (the HWK290 ship) to make that HLC a 5-shot HLC, which makes Dash even more brutal.
