Wassup,

I'm thinking of converting my Dark Angels from my Dark Vengeance set when it comes, however, I'm windering if it might just be better to sell the DA's and buy the actual models instead for a bit more money. What kits/models do you think I would have to buy or would provide some good stuff to stick onto the DA's to make them look more chaos-y?

Obviously I will get rid of the DA iconography as my Chaos are Black Legion (zzzz I know, I did consider Emporers Children as I love the who Slaanesh thing but don't fancy painting layer after layer of pink/purple)

Theres a chaos warband called The death shadows that have a very similar look to the dark angels.

Personally, I would hunt around on Ebay for mangled and used sprues such as this:

Its really the iconography you need. You could also green stuff and plasticard what you need as well.

I actually love seeing converted models that look chaosy on the table more than the straight up chaos models. It shows that you care enough to take the time to make them yours and puts many players who play chaos in awe, including myself.

The tricky part is removing the DA iconography. Having done that myself, I heartily recommend doing it BEFORE assembling... and make sure your dremel is working before committing to it.

You could also make a Fallen Angels army. Run them with cypher as the HQ. Gives the army a reason to look like normal DA with scratched/removed iconography. Plus if you don't get the icon entirely off gives a reason why part of it may still be there. And you can still run it as a chaos dex. Plus adding some spikes and a chain here and there will add more of a chaos feel to it.

If you carefully scratch off the sword from the winged hand on the poltroons, you've basically created a variation of the emperor's Children symbol. From that point, paint them in any colors you want; old guard EC's tend to dress in riotous clash, and since their gene seed is so degraded any new "successors" would probably just be influenced by them and be doing their own thing with looted gene seed. Skies the limit for Slaaneshi color schemes.

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

My chaos army has a renegade blood angel theme. They've made contact with a few Traitor Legionnaires, who they are learning the true nature of chaos from.

I've used a few DV miniatures in the army. Some are un-modified and just painted to suit my army themes (chaos details are added through paint/transfers).

Most have backpack swaps and have their shoulders redetailed.

Some have extensive re-working (swapping out the front plate of the armour, chaosifying weapons, heads and arms).

These are recent additions to my army and the pictures aren't up to date so they still have some work before they are finished.

Don't forget many chaos marines rely on piracy and looting to keep their equipment running. There is no reason your chaos marines won't be wearing hastily repainted Dark Angel armour if they're currently fighting a campaign against Dark Angels.
