So what I'm wondering is whether or not Chaos space marines have made any notable actions against anyone other than the imperium. That's pretty much all you ever read about them is the down with the emperor death to the imperium stuff but do they ever go after anyone else? I know it's not going to be all of the chaos marines like a black crusade but I'm still wondering if a warband or multiple might go pillage some tau or eldar planets every now and then.

Yep. But most of the fluff is from an Imperial perspective, so actions they never hear anything about doesn't get much press.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

The chaos codex timelines mentions several conflicts that don't involve the Imperium. There's Emperor's Children vs Eldar ("The Shattering", 764.M34), Word Bearers vs Tau ("The Blood Tithe", 920.M41), and a warband led by a World Eater going up against the Tyranids ("Skulls for the Skull Throne", 992.M41).

The slave wars were a pretty big deal. There is a lot of internal conflict within the CSM.

Yeah, there's references to CSMs vs Others (which they really should explore more in the Fluff to be honest).

Lots of it has been mentioned above. There was also CSM vs Dark Eldar at some point since Fabius Bile was captured but eventually taken in and trained by the Haemonculi (unless that's been retconned...who knows these days?)

A quick Ctrl+F for "Fabius" in the Haemonculus Covens supplement ebook tells us that it has not been retconned, not that that word has meaning in 40k.

It seems that at least one Eldar faction has it out for the Night Lords. Sahaal/Acerbus and 10th Company have had to put up with their elvish tricks

Any of this, other than the Night Lords (which I love), take place in any novels? I just started the HH and would love to pick up some others as well.

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion

The biggest one i can think of is the legion wars in the eye just after the heresy

From the perspective of the chaos guys apparently the heresy was a picnic compared to the legion wars

'Straya... Mate.

I do the the "forging a narrative" thing, so as a Chaos player, if I beat a xenos, or lose to them for that matter, it gets written in to my warband's history. So yes, there has been notable feats against xenos by Chaos.
