I love the down to wire games as well. It is more exciting than just blowing your opponent away. The Warlord was the actual Flying Hive Tyrant model (that was painted in Orange). The Broadside and walking Swarmlord models were just the proxies. Thanks for reading!

The new Tyranids are great! The pods bring a whole new dimension to their play (and significantly compliment the incoming FMCs and MCs) and the Mucolids are extremely good for their cost. You will start to see Tyranids making a push, I would think.

Thanks for reading!

Yeah the mucolids are great. Not giving up kill points or victory points is great since they want to die anyway, and they are so cheap that anything that shoots at them is basically a waste of points. Plus, it actually will not die as easily as people think. How weird lol.

I think it will find its way into a lot of lists just because of how cheap it is, but not being objective secured is tough. Especially because it can't score at all.

Overall, great report.

I'm the Tyranids player in this report. Glad everyone is enjoying it! It was a really fun and close match to play.

Also, I can't believe I forgot my Flyrants all had Electroshock Grubs. And you guys are spot on about Mucolids. I think I'm gonna use them for my required troops in like every game from now on.

Just food for thought - as you would be bringing an army with no objective: secured (unless you decide to include a Skyblight formation or just run codex Tyranids and have some other troops alongside your Mucolids) the game, when close, can become what you found in this report: if I table my opponent I win; otherwise I lose. While a fun way to play, it's not always the best because many armies will deny you the opportunity to table them (or make it extremely unlikely that you will), and as such have the ability to win on objectives. Wave serpents are a prime example of this. While your Flyrants can whittle away at them (EGrubs is awesome) they still have 3+ jink against your normal attacks and have more than enough mobility to move around the world's slowest moving mine. You can sometimes get their goat when they need to stay by an objective late game though.

I think Mucolids are best used taking up troop requirements in Leviathan, allowing you to do whatever you want with your normal Tyranid CAD. There they can be taken in great numbers, and most importantly in many different units. I need to model some up to try it out, or just find more top bits that aren't like $10 each

You're absolutely right about that - it's a risky way to play as it can force you into that "all or nothing" style for sure. That style is definitely growing on me though, considering it produced a match as fun as this one!

Great report, loved it! Had no idea who would pull through in the end, and even after it finished I felt like the game wasn't over somehow. Keep 'em coming!

That Nid list with the mucolids etc. is definitely a very interesting new element, those DS'ing exploding nasties are tough to deal with..

On the Eldar side, seems like a 2nd Wraithknight instead of the walkers would benefit the list, and I was hoping the Crimson hunter would prove its worth for once, but alas.

Loved the wraithblade deathstar, would like to see more reports on how it plays versus a wraithguard deathstar. 3 ICs and 10 WG is a huge stack of points for its limited speed, but it did bring a lot of pain to the nids.

Cheers,
Ibushi

Thanks for reading! It was exciting - If you want to read more, there is a link in my signature to many other reports.

Agreed with the Mucolids - they will change how the Tyranids are played.

Regarding the War Walkers, I just like them too much. They are extremely dynamic with the shooting. I just misused them this game. This is a fun list anyways so why not play something I like! The Crimson Hunter, this was just not a good game for it. I have had many other games (found in my other reports) where it was a total beast. In this game, even though it lasted a turn, it effectively drew the attention away from everyone else for a turn I guess.

I have thought about using Wraithguard. Honestly it may even be more effective, especially when invisible. An effective 18" range with move and potentially Guide with a Spiritseer, it could be extremely lethal.
