Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

Good day all!
With X-mas coming quickly, I was thinking about trying out a new army. I don't have a lot of money to spend on Warhammer right now, but I always prefer to buy new. (From GW or other retailer). I've been playing around with a Tau list to get it cheap (with RL money) and I think I found something. I want to know if that army is somehow viable (keep in mind that this list isn't a tournament list and is mainly oriented for friendly game / but i still like to win or at least hold my own in some games):
With this list, I can buy 2 battleforce and 1 piranah and be ready to play (around 320$ on GW) not bad. What do you think of the list? Can I have some fun and good games with it?

Your lack of any heavy support choices or pathfinders is interesting. I understand you are going for a cheap army monetary-wise, so you are going to need to get creative. Currently you have almost no ability to take out any AV. Your missile pod crisis suits will do a good job taking out transports, but are not going to reliably touch AV13 whatsoever and your stealths are not going to be able to fully make up for it.. I would run the piranhas in individual squads, each with a fusion blaster to help with this.
Never take twin linked weapons on your commander. It completely wastes his natural BS 5. I think you have enough s5 shooting between your fire warriors and stealths. I would change the weapons on both your commander and his bodyguard unit to 2 Plasma Rifles each. 4 s6 ap2 shots in rapid fire range per suit has easily made my commander and crisis team my friends' least favorite unit. They can mow through nearly any unit in the game that does not rely on invisibility or good invuln saves. I also have the missile pods be individual pods instead of twin linking them, but that one is not as important.
Depending on what point level you want to play at, I would trim the gun drones and shas'ui from the fire warrior squads and seeker missiles from the piranhas if need be to make up for what I suggested. Otherwise, it is not a bad start for an army, but pathfinders or heavies need to be the first place you expand into.

Hello! After re-tweeking the list, I wanted to share it again. I know the lack of heavy support is very detrimental, but until I get some, I will find some people to play 1250 without Heavy. Here is the list:
You have to keep in mind that I do most of these choice due to unit in my possession. I don't feel I need more fusion blaster on Piranah because at 1250, with no HS, I don't see too many AV13 spam that will be dangerous to me. Maybe once the new Necron codex is out, but not that much for now.
I would like also to keep the Shas'ui with marker lights/target lock to have some marker synergy. It seem like the cheepest way to get them, apart from my 2 stealth team. It will be 4 marker generated per turn that my Crisys can use to bring the PAIN!
Thanks for the feedback, I hope I will have some on this updated list too

Markerlights within fire warrior squads are not the most efficient way to bring them in, but if you do not want to run pathfinders then it is not an awful way to give an extra BS to a unit every turn.
Your commander and his unit look good. I do not think that the shield generator is necessary on the commander, as only S10 will instakill him, which are what his shield drones should be tanking anyway. I'd drop that, but overall a very solid unit. My personal favorite.
The rest looks good. I stealthsuits and piranhas. Both are often underutilized for either crisis suits or pathfinders respectively. You need to be careful with them though. It is very easy to overextend with those units, particularly the stealths with their infiltration. They are not incredibly tough and easy to kill when all on their lonesome. Your lack of ability to deal with AV13 still concerns me, but if you say you do not plan on seeing much, then you should be ok. Just be sure to use those markerlights on any heavy vehicles to make sure you get the kill, and do not be afraid to trade a 65 point piranha for a land raider

As a futur buy, should I go Hammerhead, Riptide or Broadside? I obviously need to up my list with some heavy firepower. I prefer Broadside over Hammerhead but the model are sOOOO expansive haha.
If I go Broadside (cuz they are sweet looking) should I 3man squad them, or 3 squad of 1? And do I go the famous rocket spam with like a million missile or Railgun? Thanks

I'd go with broadsides. They are more survivable than a hammerhead, though they lack the ability to punch through armor in the same way. Most people are going to take missiles over railguns and I would advise you to do the same because the HYMP is going to give you a response to flyers without having to have a dedicated anti-flyer unit. That, and the missiles only lose one strength to the railgun in exchange for three extra shots. Finally, since you have the slots open, running them as three separate squad is the way to go. They are more survivable because all three cannot be targeted at once, you can split them apart to get better angles or avoid blasts, and they can naturally target separate units without having to buy target locks for them.
Broadsides would be a solid addition to your list for all the reasons above. However, once you add them, you need to do a little reorganizing of your other units. Make sure you magnetize your crisis suits so that you have the option to give them fusion blasters. Deep striking fusion blasters are a threat to every vehicle you could face, and you are more likely to run into them as you go up in points. The broadsides would do the job of the missile crisis suits, so I would feel comfortable exchanging them out.

Have you considered doing some bits shopping? With some different heads and weapons from bits sites you could easily make some of those battle force Fire Warriors into Pathfinders.
And I agree with the rest of the posters on load out of weapons. Swap the Burst Cannon for Missile Pods / Plasma Blasters / Meltas

All right thanks! I'm painting 2 army at the same time so I guess I won't buy new stuff until March next year or something. Solid feedback, I feel ready to rock some game and gain more experience with the army now!
The broadsides would do the job of the missile crisis suits, so I would feel comfortable exchanging them out.
I totally agree with that. In fact, that's why I kit 3 Crysis with missile pods for now. It was my tentavive to minimize the fact that I don't have a HS choice.

I haven't bought broadsides since the new models came out, and since then, haven't fielded them. So I have two squads of missile crisis suits in my 1500 farsight list. It is definitely a solid unit, but broadsides would probably do their job better. Yeah, have them magnetized and you will always have options. Glad I could help.

Markerlights on Shas'ui isnt the best way to go, try decking them out with marker drones in the BG squad and give the commander a drone controller (BS5 markerlights).
sheild drones arnt as good as they used to be as they dont give the unit a save anymore just add a body with a ++ save to the squad so could also replace those with Markerlights.
Also if you dont like proxies (i dont) just cut half of one of the carbines (to make it thinner) and then put a crisis suit support sytem on the otherside looks much better haha and is cheaper.
