If you was asked to buy a 400pt character to use in a 40k Character Duel knockout tournament that worked with 1 round of shooting each followed by h2h combat with an initiative test to see who gets assault in the first round who would you pick? What build would you use?

A single 400pt character?

I think there's a Primarch or two that fit the bill. Maybe Angron.

I'd take Raaukan chapter master on a bike with thunder hammer gorgons chain artificer armour and digital weapons. He's somewhere around 270ish points and is pretty much unkillable.... disregarding D weapons and stomps.....

400 points is getting close to the point cost of a deathstar unit, and is a little high for single characters. I mean an Imperial Knight is less points than that.

2+/3++ T5 with 3 wounds on an AV 13 3HP 3++ Chariot with Str7 AP2 Armorbane CC attacks.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

OK 400 is too much - how many points would be a "competitive" figure with several different viable options?

Abaddon. He might lose to a Necron overlord, but there aren't that many things that will beat him.

I'd also go with 200pts.

Enough points for options and room for badass characters, but within reason.

At 400 points you can pretty much cover any normal IC, so why not just say, any single named model on a base 40mm or smaller?

DPs used to come on 40mm.

as well it just get silly with t6 characters coming out of chaos side. (nurgle bikes are dumb) (IIRC i might be wrong)

Too bad Mephiston is only AP3. Dude can throw armored vehicles around but damnit, you're wearing a smaller, lighter, man-portable version of that dreadnought he just cut open. He has no chance against you.

Captain Lysander - 230 points. With that amount, you've got one of the meanest dudes in the codex, counting out the Clan Raukaan CM on a bike... or they might actually share the first place.

With 4W, 2+/3++, EW, and S10 hammer, he turns most of the other characters into thin paste, at least on the paper.

Ah yes, this was probably the purpose.
Honestly it may be fun to give Lelith Hesperax a go. She is great in one on one. Strikes at I9, rerolls to hits, ignores armor. If she doesnt kill the opponent in the first round she will die, but if your dice are on then she might take it home.

Although there are some psykers out there that would be great just by getting invisibility.

Abby for sure. It is confirmed, he is the most powerful melee character in the game save for MCs. People have done the math.

Sevrin Loth has immediate access to either Biomancy or Telepathy. Combine with a Force weapon and a possible 2++ he's really hard to kill and kills hard.

Hah! but DPs aren't named characters It has to be a named fella, like Urien Rakkarth, not a generic, like Avatar. Clash of the (anti?) heroes!
