The Frozen North

Hey all, I have been thinking about adding a detachment of Sisters to my Imperial Guard and I refuse to shell out $80 for ten of the old pewter one piece castings. That being said I have been considering various options for converting some sisters from other plastic kits. Early thoughts included the use of Eldar Guardians as a basis or even some of the Dark Eldar. Then I came across these: http://dreamforge-games.blogspot.com/2014/08/valkir-heavy-troopers-20-man-box-set.html

I really like the Gothic sculpted armor on these figures, especially since they have the loincloths already. I do not think it would take a whole lot to give them bolters, backpacks, and a headswap. Add some Fleur de Li's and I think they would make some rather nice Sisters. Any thoughts on this?

They are much better sculpts than the current SoB but i don't think you will save that much money, the back packs womt come cheap and even a head swap could come in at £1 a model. I say go for it but you could find it more expensive.

Why goying so far? The assault rifles are very "bolter like", and the "alternate" looking helmets are very cool too... You will need to sculpt/paint some fleur de liss, and maybe add some torches, but not more than this. I dont see the need for back packs (the ones in the models themselves look very cool).

Indeed, in your place i would only replace special weapons, like meltas, and heavies... But even them, there are good options in the range for those...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...
My take on Demiurgs (enjoy the reading):

Uhg, why did meow meow have to go under? They had heads to make those dreamforge ones perfect.

Failing that the immolator kit has a plastic SOB helmeted head I guess.

Stupid question: Does Dreamforge have a game associated with their models or do they just go about making cool models?

If you like them go for them. Seeing the pictures they have there...I can't say I like them very much. A good paint job may change that but I'm not sure. I really don't like the helmets regardless, though, I'd either spend the money to change the helmets or not spend the money on them. (if you do go down that route...try it before committing to buy a huge swathe).

I had the same project in mind aswel, the only extra part I was going to use would be these heads http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8774376/sma012-heroic-scale-female-heads.html

It's worth noting that those guys are big, as in almost Terminator big, at least in height if not girth. However, Dreamforge have an all-female unit coming out next year that I fully intend to convert into Sisters:

It was just a thought for the other bits, the headswap is the main thing I would be doing and I would be chopping down marine backpacks to be more sisters like if I decided to go that far. Like was mentioned, their guns are a bit bolter like, just a lot sleeker. If I decided they needed actual bolt guns I have scads of them just laying around in my bits box and I can always get more on the cheap. It would be the special and heavy weapons that would be the larger expense.
