So ... I'm growing bored of playing with my mate. Both of us have melee assault armies, so every game is basically about ... well ... who sets up a better fight to take advantage of the combat resolution wins. Wich means, we have to send everything strong in melee that we have into the one-big-fight where the bunker unit is engaged, to support it, and make it troublesome for the opponent to do the same.

Everything ends beeing about combat resolution.

I would like to change it, making it ... various. Kinda 40k like. I would like it to be as tactical as some deep thinking turn strategy boardgames/videogames are ...

I've been thinking about changing the scenarios, leaving the standard battle for something exotic. I was thinking of surrounding forces, siges, or even urban battles. But nothing really good came to my mind. I'd like some help.

P.S: We don't play competitive, yet it is getting very boring.

Easiest way to change it up and vary it is to expand your meta, i.e. play against more opponents.

Also if tactical/"deep thinking" is what you want look flr another ruleset, because thats not 40k at all.

If you have the Big Rulebook, all the sections on Narrative battles could be great. Maybe you could make a campaign of a series of themed battles. You could also try some skirmish battles, maybe taken from the old supplement or alternatively using the Regiments of Renown rules and maybe coming up with some more scenarios.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

You are already playing the most tactical of GW's games(that aren't discontinued anyway)

You're "complaint" about setting up a melee fight to your biggest advantage is actually quite fun. The problem isn't that, its just that you are always fighting the same person, and probably basically the same list, each and every time you play.

You really just need to see other players. Or maybe pick up a second army. That would work almost as well.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

I sorta agree here... about 75% of the time that i play i play the same person, who plays Skaven. I play High Elves (and now Host of the Eternity King, thank you ET:K).

I ran into this, and what i did was totally revamp my own list. My buddies reaction that game was awesome, he was amazed to see me deviate from my normal stuff, and so the following game he deviated from what he takes all the time, etc etc...

If your playgroup is small, or usually you play the same person, i recommend drastically shaking up your lists. We are fairly lucky because i have army ADD, and i currently can play 3 armies (4 if you count HotEK as a different army), but it's still easy to fall into that tried and true rut of taking the same stuff that works / you like a lot.

Shake it up, and i think you'll have more interesting games.

And if possible, play more than just one person... this will broaden your horizons dramatically.
