Looking to get into Warmaster ancients, specifically Persians and either Greeks/Romans or Norse.

What company is the cheapest - most models for lowest cost, USA shipping too.

I've already looked at Heroic and Ros (Very small Norse selection) and Pendraken (more on expensive side).

Thanks All!

Anyone have a copy of the warmaster medieval also?

Somewhere in south-central England.

Do you have opponents around or are you thinking of making two matched armies for yourself?

I ask because if there are people around with 10mm they would already have a good idea about what to buy. If not, then you could consider playing the rules using either 15mm or 6mm figures.

Another point to bear in mind is that the Warmaster Ancients base sizes are compatible with the "standard WRG" base sizes used for many other Ancient/Mediaeval wargame rules. There may be people around who play other rules (Field of Glory, DBA, and so on) using 10mm, or other scales. You could therefore match them for armies and see if they would give Warmaster a go.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Firstly, thank you for that great reply!

I actually don't know anyone personally who plays any of those games, and I wanted to get into warmaster ancients with a friend.

I've been looking around for various companies and it seems that 6mm is even cheaper, so I'd be open to companies at the model size as well. So far Baccus 6mm and pendraken have caught my eye...

What you can do is to use the base sizes in the Warmaster Ancients rules, which are for 10mm figures but are actually the same base size used for 15mm figures in WRG heritage rules.

You can fit more 6mm figures on the base than 10mm and make it look like an even more "mass" battle.

I'm from the future. The future of space

If you go with 10mm, Pendraken is worth the money.

6mm is pretty cool though. Baccus is a great company to deal with. Rapier is compatible with them as well:

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Echo the idea that you might want to consider 6mm as a scale for Warmaster rather than 10mm. Afterall it is only the base size of elements you are considering

Okay if you are decent painter 10mm figures are easy inon the eye, but a massed unit of 6mm looks more impressive (IMO).

Certainly helps with costs - Baccus are really nice but Irregular Miniatures supply minis that are cheap and cheerful, not to the same quality though, but certainly work in large barbarian units

I'm not as versed in historicals, but if they carry a given era/scale, Old Glory is almost always the cheapest option.

Further, if you pay 50 bucks a year, you get 40% off everything and they carry ALOT of stuff

Sometimes the main old glory site doesn't have great pictures, but you can often find better pictures here:

A few other brands to check.

-Magister Militum
-Steve Barber
-Copplestone Castings.
-Irregular Miniatures

A bunch more here: though many are overseas:

I've actually had quite good luck ordering minis from the UK, oftentimes you can get quite reasonable shipping rates, especially if they're willing to drop VAT.

Not to get on your case, but I googled "10mm Ancients" and found all the above on the first page.
:-)

If you're willing to pay a bit more to get better sculpts I'd say stick with 10mm. Some of the figures in 10mm are getting as nice as 15mm figs Sme of that is due to scale creep towards 12mm, but still.

If you want the absolute cheapest, it might be better to go with 6mm, but either way, it's not going to be an expensive proposition.

Best of luck whatever you decide.
