Here it is:

I have a lot touching up to do, and I totally ignored the fuel tank on the flamer. I primed and base coated with an airbrush and everything else with a bristle brush. This is about 50% done. But still even half-done, a measured improvement compared to the model I painted last week:

And an even bigger improvement from the very first space marine I painted about 2-3 weeks ago (first on the left):

Most of that improvement is thanks to the advice on paints, brushes, methods and techniques offered by the Dakka community as a whole. I have quite a ways to go before I reach most of you in quality and expertise and Dakka is the most valuable tool in my hobby arsenal!

EDIT:

I decided to edit this post rather than post again about the exact same model. Anyway, as stated I base coated this with a Vallejo Game Air color using an airbrush, and as you can clearly tell, it needs some touch-ups after the shades and highlights. Vallejo Game Air goes on pretty thin with a bristle brush and I can't find an exact match from the Citadel range to match that base yellow. What would be the best way of going about touching up? Should I layer it with the same Game Air color several times until the mistakes disappear? Is there a "hack" to thicken it up slightly just to do it in one coat? Suggestions?

I'm really impressed. That progression is plenty speedy, and yellow is not the easiest colour for anyone to paint well, let alone a self confessed beginner such as yourself. Top job

Thanks! I was warned plenty about walking into the hobby painting Fists and how frustrated I would get, and that indeed did happen. Full disclosure: there are about 4 really depressing space marine models that are desperately in need of paint stripping before I reached this point, believe me. lol

Appreciate the accolades. Means a lot!

All due to the advice here, and you definitely contributed to that with helping me with my freehand purity seal/writing squigglies. Thanks!!!

Great progression dude and good to see how your previous thread paid off. What was your finalised scheme in the end to airbrush them? Did you use game air paints like gold yellow?

Thanks man!!!

Vallejo surface primer, then Gold Yellow (good eye!), shaded with agrax earthshade (someone recommended Winsor & Newton brushes -- WOW what a difference especially with shading and purity seal writing). Then using a bristle brush I applied Moon Yellow for the highlight and a 2:1 watery Vallejo white for the super highlights. In my opinion I think I overdid the super-highlights. For the trim/eyes I brushed on Vallejo Fire Red and highlighted with GW Wild Riders Red (gonna switch to green for the eyes to break it up a bit). My Model Air paint range set came with an Aluminum, so I tested it out on the flamer marine and it was ridiculously bright, so I laid down two layers of nuln oil to give it more of a worn look than a off-the-assembly-line look. For the melted finish look I put on the flamer tip I used Vallejo Rust mixed with Nuln Oil and just a drop of water to make it slightly more transparent.

Started mass painting a few more, I learned the convenience of taking the arms off before painting, lol:

I'm a little bit late to the party, but am considering getting on board the Imperial Fist bandwagon myself.

How is your army coming along? Any more finished pics for us? Any changes or refinements to your technique/colours?
