I've always heard you should get at least a couple of these, for the dice, movement sticks, and so on. But what about three?

Is two the magic number or would three still be useful?

Thing is, I'm potentially getting two from various folks for xmas but I've just seen this on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-X-Wing-Miniatures-Game/dp/1616613769/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417979280&sr=8-1&keywords=xwing
Which, at least at the time of this post, is the core set for 23 bucks. That's putting the three ships at just over 7 dollars a piece without considering all of the extra goods.

I've got a little amazon store credit to burn, is it worth having 3 Core Sets in the long run or would I be better off waiting to see what I get for the holidays and using the same 23 dollars worth of credit to pick up one or two other ships I don't already have? (bearing in mind that xwings, tiefighters, and many others are usually overpriced on amazon due to lack of availability etc).

Thanks for looking

I just got a third. Still the cheapest way to get a basic x and 2 ties. The rest of the stuff, not so useful after 2 sets.

^I think you may have just sold me on it

So, yeah eBay seems to have the dice going for at least 5-6 bucks, though regular card-board templates don't seem as apparent. Seems like I could recoup at least some of the cost and it's already pretty light.

Thanks for the advice guys

3 is the magic number. 3 X-wings and 6 Ties. Plus a set of spares for each ruler, asteroid, etc.
After that you need to get an expansion X-wing and Tie to give you the upgrade pilot cards to create the 2 most basic lists.
Online the basic set is still under $30, so 2 sets is still pretty inexpensive.

I've got four, but I have xwing addiction issues. I've just bought copies 5 and 6 for my two nephew's Christmas.

Ha ha, this is a great ruse to get more opponents and be generous over xmas break - I wonder if my father in law would appreciate one? Hmmm.....

If in doubt, frag it out...

I haven't found a need for more than 2 yet. Granted, I bought 2 TIE Expansions, but beyond that, I haven't seen a need for 6 TIE Fighters yet.

Plus the GR-75 comes with it's own X-Wing. Thought about getting another X-Wing in addition to the 4 I already have, but I maaay consider another GR-75 instead, since there just happens to be a mission that uses more than 1 of them.
