So I know this might be way too soon, because in reality, I don't really know how the codex is going to be. I'm very excited and regardless of these few points I want to make, I'm going to stay that way in hopes of a good codex release. I don't want to shoot something down too soon when It could turn out to be amazing. Regardless of what happens I love my BA and that's all that matters.

With that said, I'm observing a few things so far about the new blood angels release.

The good and the bad:

Good thing is the new tactical squad looks fantastic. The options, the models, everything is beautiful. I haven't seen anyone comment about this, but them sergeants are wearing artificer armor. so does that mean BA get that option for sergeants? that would be really awesome. The bigger bases are way cool imo but i know this is going to be a bad thing for some. We get our own powers? hell yes.

1 power looks like it gives fleet to a unit with D3 attacks and initiative. Awesome and warp charge of 1

The priest model is fantastic but $30? holy crap...ill probably still buy it. Theres also no additional heads in the kit, or weapons, so if you buy say 3 for your army, every one of them will look exactly the same. $20 for the commander and you get so much more customization. Yea I suppose I can do my own, but for $30...in comparison to the captain, what was GW thinking?

As for the bad. I like what they have done....so far. Yes the tactical squad is great, yes the priest is great, but us blood angels players didn't really use them in the first place. We use assault marines for one, and for two...FNP has been nerfed since 6th so priests arent as viable. So i'm seriously hoping...that GW didnt feed us some nice looking, but useless models. Unless of course they made them viable again with new rules. Honestly, where is my damn toxicrene? Tyranids got a bunch of new models and it wasn't even their codex release, yet we have been waiting for 5 years for a new dex and we get tactical squads and a priest? I truly hope they haven't released all the new models coming out. Where is the rework on mephiston or dante? If rumors are true, and yes they are rumors, but they are saying Dante becomes lord of war. AGAIN, not something we really use. I have yet to see anything that hints we will be getting a "WOW" unit. Which is what we need, and what the space marines codex SHOULD have got. If blood angels hope to get any competitive edge again, because they are assault based in a shooting game, we need our wow unit or a serious rule revamp.

Other rumors are both death company and DC dread have dropped to WS4? I seriously hate Matt Ward. Forget scoring can I keep my damn WS5?

I don't want this to turn out to be like the diablo 3 release. hurry up and wait for a tactical squad? hello GW get a clue. As for me, I'm primarily in the hobby for modeling and painting, so the new releases are great. However, who wants to spend hundreds of dollars and spend hours of time painting and collecting to watch their army get destroyed on the board. Not fun my friends. I prefer a balance of both. I don't even expect BA to be top tier again, I just want them somewhat competitive and playable.

I'd like to know what you guys think.

The Blood Angels are a codex chapter so the majority of our forces are Tactical Squads.

Matt Ward let GW earlier in the year. He is not responsible, since they probably wrote the codex rules during a lunch break in September.

The codex will be mid tier with one power build than goes counter to the fluff like most codexs.

I think there will be no top tier list that can be made out of the new BA codex.

I think the same thing will happen to them that happened to Space Wolves and deldar, everything interesting will be nerfed or removed. Then things that were rarely used will get a boon, and if you are really lucky you will get idiotic new models like the Space Wolves got.

I love this kind of conjecture when the book isn't even out and there's been almost no confirmed rules.

Given how 40k is "meant" be played, that doesn't surprise me.

I wouldn't say FNP got nerfed, it's actually pretty good now as you can use it on anything that isn't S8 or higher (instant death).

My Sanguinary Guard (and favorite unit!) last a good while longer now than in previous editions... the great news is they are getting much cheaper and can take 10 man squads! I need to build/paint more...

My guess would be that Dante's warlord trait gives Descent of Angels; hopefully he still makes SG troops.

But in either case, I am also very excited for this book.

Dante will most likely not make SG troops, you will just a detachment similar to wolves that allows you to take elites as compulsory opposed to troops.

DC better be troops.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Logically, the Heavy Flamer exists to make Tactical Squads more assault-y

I'd rather have improvements to existing units. I personnally don't enjoy painting, so I would buy neither stuff that dies like everything else, nor a unit that makes my existing units obselete.

Exactly, and that's why Blood Angels need a lot of improvement to existing before I consider any more time building the army

Whole thread in the News and Rumors. And relay info from a guy that has the codex already. Rules are being confirmed as we go along and it's not looking good.

Looks like they are elites.
Latest rumors say only troops are scouts and tac marines. DC + DC dreadnought are elite. Elite has 4 slots instead of 3. Assault marines are FA now.

I think they are getting some fancy looking termies and librarian soon too, but thats just me deducting from pictures people leak onto facebook.

I wish GW would stop taking the fun fluffy units out, mordrak, asdrubael, etc. it makes it all kind of bland, but heres hoping for some sort of asdrubael toxicrene type release thing.
p.s. I liked logans boat being pulled by wolves, if that was IRL id laugh but then id be headless.....

One extra slot of Elite is probably not going to help most people that had DC as Troops. Considering that they have even more Elite stuff than the C:SM now.

Yet, strangely, DC and DC Dreads are Troops in Deathstorm. I guess I will be fielding Cassor the Damned for my DC Dread. Oh dear, I was going to anyway. Can't decide if I want to field Raphen's DC squad as they are troops as well.

I'm sure they'll have an "Pay extra and you can continue playing your army" slate available.

Pretty much. Though we haven't seen anything indicating that will be the case. It is more "Buy a ton of new models if you want to play your army".
