Sorry if this kind of post was made before but I just picked up the codex and want to see what people think.

It's more internally balanced than the last book but still needs allies to be anywhere near the power level of top tier armies. Tigurius with grav cents in a fast attack pod are my favorite. Long fangs are no longer an auto include thanks to jacking up the price for missile launchers. GH now pay for the CCW.

If you like Thunderwolf cavalry and allies, the book and supplement are awesome. If you don't, it's pretty underwhelming.

Eh, I feel like both posts above me are more competitive and desire to win players.

Overall the SW codex now is good. It isn't a huge hit with the Nerf bat, really we only lost a few things like minor upgrades and Wolf Guard cheese.

Its still viable, it brought us a few new things to add into our armies like Space wolf specific fliers and dreads. If you want to have fun games and use a ton of different strategies its for you.

You can make Wolfstar lists and run over most things easily if you try but for fun games at a not WAAC and competitive level you can easily run all the old units you used to. Logan got a pretty cool space sled that is an easy kitbash to a long boat, and is a chariot which is pretty cool and throws players for a loop now and then.

Relics and psyker abilities aren't bad, and our vehicles are still just regular vehicles and fun to play with. Its not a bad dex, have fun and play your games

Yeah, I agree. New SW is not a fantastic cheese army, so if you want a cheesy list, it's probably not the way to go.

However, they have a very unique, and very cool aesthetic, and if you like them, there are plenty of ways to make them interesting without feeling helpless.

My biggest grump is that I'm not a huge fan of chariot dude... I just don't get the whole chariot thing, 40,000 years in the future But oh well.

It fits the army really well with the Viking style theme we used to have, and I kinda think they were going for that more.

I love the new model tho and cant wait to get a new one.

The codex is now more balanced, in the competitive scene the only way to go is with TWC with allies. Though in the process of balancing GW took away most of what makes wolves unique. The new kits that came out either were ungodly ugly, such as the flier or just useless, other than the shield dread.
