I like the idea, but the best part of your standard Fat Dash is that it's all self contained action-generation, and it's simple.
This is a case of Dash being dependant on another ship, and that ship will have to stay on Dash's ass to make it happen.
There's a lot of move management that'll make it a challenge since Cracken's ability and EPU are dependant on range 1-2, and if Dash is boosting/rolling you might find yourself out.
Additionally, there's no guarantee that Cracken will get to attack in a given turn for the free action.
Just playing devil's advocate here, the idea is solid. I do think it's cool that several actions can happen in different phases, which could definitely throw your opponent off a bit.
