I'm building a grey knights army and can't decide which allies I should use to get some long distance heavy firepower. I've heard imperial guard are good for that but also heard dark angels would work as well. If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated

Imperial Knight(s) work pretty well since they offer exactly what Grey Knights lack.

My armies:
Eldar
Necron
Chaos Space Marines
Grey Knights
Imperial Knights
Death Guard

DA how?
The only thing that you can get out of Dark Angels would probably be the DW Terminators and their Deathwing Assault? You already have a lot of terminators I'm sure.
You can use the RW Black Knights... But I think you'll need the points more elsewhere.
You could ally AM and let their Guardsmen handle the objectives for you. Maybe then you will be able to bring your GK units to fight the fight.
An IK would definitely boost your army.... As it would almost any army.

The one problem with using imperial knights is that they are a lot of points and make an already 'elite' ie small, army even smaller. If your looking for help in dealing with GK's issues then try either AM blobs or vanilla/ space wolf marines. The cool thing with the nemesis strike formation is that you can really go to town points wise on the allies.

I use the NSF force org as primary, then bring in a cad of space wolves with 2 min blood claws with a melts gun for troops, and then 3 drop pods in the fast attack slot for my three purifier squads. I also take an inquisitor detachment with a 25 pt inquisitor with 3 servoskulls so that I can be aggressive with side armor drops and dropping 1 inch from from their front line to maximize cleansing flames. Remember you can roll for the one pod that doesn't come in automatically on turn 1 because of the NSF special rules, as well as you can run the purifiers after they cleanse some enemy units away for maximizing incinerators.

Eldar are the best if youre really looking for something decent., they complement each other perfectly.
I'd grab a farseer with the summoning stone/ mantle, 1-3 wave serpents, a wraith-knight , some fire dragons and 3 hornets.
With all the warp charge you'd be getting from the knights you'd easily be popping out a unit of plague drones a turn. The wraith knight works well with the dreadknights and the serpents and hornets can just sit at the back grabbing objectives.
Tau also work really well, Ion tide, farsight with fusions/plasma crisis suit team and a unit of broadsides with 2 units of 10 kroot. Add in some tetras and youre good to go.

Agreed about the SW allies, the purifier pods have been well established as the best way to get Turn 1 or 2 Cleansing Flame without getting shot up right away. Although I would point out that you should not be rolling for that third pod on turn 1. The NSF allows for T1 reserves rolls, but only for "units in this detachment." Space Wolf pods are not in the NSF detachment. The purifiers should just be happy the Power Puppies let them borrow a ride.
I would also be interested to see what kind of FA Transport shenanigans we get from the Blood Angels codex this weekend.

I hate to admit it because it is so wrong from a fluff perspective (my best friend runs wolves and we give each other hell from the fluff. Go read about the months of shame post Armageddon), but SW are probably the best allies for your GK. Deepstriking the NSF in turn 1 and with purifiers in pods, then use either grey hunters or blood claws to provide some bodies on the field to capture objectives with OBJSEC. the Gray hunters are still some of the best, for point cost, troops in the game.

Imperial Fists with Sentinel of Terra might also be good. Tank hunting devastators would give you the long range firepower you are looking for. Put them in a bunker with comm array to reroll your NSF reserve rolls. Take boltgun scouts for troops for added support to your NSF deep strikers.

I'd opt for a cheap detachment from Inquisition just for increasing the pool of power dice and cheap objective holding.

I'd get the IG or the Inquisition, myself. GK want more bodies, not less.

Sisters have some great synergy with GK. Plentiful melta and relatively cheap power armor units, plus priests to help buff the typical deathstar units even further. My personal faces for supporting my GK forces were dominion squads kitted out with meltaguns in a MM Immolator, able to outflank as needed. Also as many excorcists as you can reasonably fit. Priests for supporting scary GK units, sister blobs to taste.
