So, i decided that i wanted a borg fleet that was actually fair, so i got hold of all the Assimilated ships for my fleet. But since i knew that i was going to paint them, i had to figure out a way to keep them 'assimilated', so here is the result of my experiment with green stuff!

So, anyone else tried to do anything similar?

Very sharp looking. Your assimilated BoP is particularly nice.

I think of the 4 assimilated vessels WK has done that is the poorest. I looked at mime an noticed right away you can hardly tell it has been borgified. The head just looks dark and the spots on the engines isn't even noticeable unless you are holding it up to you face. I believe the tactics version at least had some patches on the wings, not sure why the skimped out on the AW one.

Your stuff really pops. The green lights are not over done, but draw in the attention, again great job.

I think I like the one assimilated nacelle on the Galaxy the most.

Love it! Don't suppose you can do a tutorial?

i can try. but it'll have to be a sort of 'here's one i made earlier' deal. I'm also pretty bad with explaining stuff, so if you aren't already familiar with a few terms, they should be easy enough to google

Things you need: Micro Machines Borg Cube, Green Stuff, Patience.

1. Roll out the green stuff to match a facing of the cube (about a 2" square) i rolled it onto a piece of green plastic i had lying around for convenience.

2. Allow an hour of two for the green stuff to cure, then press the cube into the green stuff as hard as you can!

After 24 hours, the green stuff will have set fully and you should end up with a 'stamp' that looks a little bit like this:

3. Now your ready to start Assimilating. Mix up some more green stuff, and spread it thinly over whatever areas of the ship you like. As before, wait about 1 hour or so for it to stop being unworkably sticky and then stamp the pattern on:

4. Looks kinda boring there though, so you need to paint it from there. I started with a dark grey, followed by a black wash. From there i drybrushed it with a dark silver, then gave it another black wash. From there i just put a few bright green dots wherever they seemed appropriate:

There you go. I hope there is enough information to work on there.

If i'm honest, i think my first test from those pictures turned out better than most of the other ships. On ATP and the bird of prey, for some reason, the green stuff just didn't spread as far with the stamp as it should have, so they look like 'blobs' of borg stuff sitting on the ships, whereas on the Avatar of Tomed and 'practice' Assimilation Target Prime it ended up blending into the hulls much better and more naturally. But oh well, green stuff is a cruel mistress when your out of practice...

Whoa, that sounds easier than I thought. Time to go to feeBay for a MM cube! Thanks for the tutorial!

You can keep greenstuff from being sticky with a little lubricant. I use tap water (we have a whole house filter, so our tap water should be pretty clean and pure) for my molding work.

This way, you can eliminate the need to wait until the GS is nearly cured before pressing out the mold, or using the stamp. Just dampen the surface you don't want to be sticky.
