In relation to the recent Shield of Baal lore, did they retcon out the fact that the Blood-Thister Ka'band'ha was striking at Baal at the exact same time as Hive Fleet Leviathan ?

Well after skimming the new codex no mention is made of the Darkest Hour, and the time line ends at the Shield of Baal.
But the Shield of Baal is said to take place in 998.M41 whereas the Darkest Hour occurs or occurred in 999.M41.
So Ka'Bandha's daemon horde might still pop up.

They have the entire 41st millennium to write about in 40K, and every fething thing seems to have to happen in the last 10-12 years of the setting. It blows my mind that GW creates this amazing, expansive universe, then just doesn't use most of it.

It's like baking a cake, decorating it, then eating one dollop of icing, and letting the rest sit around.

What the heck did you create this huge timeline for if all you are going to do is jam all the stuff in a couple of years at the end?

Well you only nibble at the batter when your making a cake.
Otherwise you have no cake.

I suspect the after the heresy, theyll possibly visit Vandire, then sisters might get a release.

I also suspect theyll turn up next year. Campaign boxes seem to be about 6 monthly things, so theres plenty of time

I concur. As much as I'd like to see timeline progression, they've still got 9k years of almost entirely unexplored setting. So many possible books so many possible stories...

There was a story in the SM omnibus where a single kroot killed 2-3 marines then ate their gene seed and became a Kroot-startes.

We must all join the Kroot-startes...

The problem with that is that they can't do a fake meaningful ending because we know what has to happen.

I prefer it this way. Considering how many franchises out there have bs "endings" that keep all relevant factions intact for the sake of sequels, I find a series that just always stays right on the edge kind of refreshing.

There is, however, I have discovered, some variance: The Shield of Baal campaign is actually set about a hundred years before the normal timeline of the setting... and back in 4th edition, the whole game was built around the Battle for Maccrage, which happened three hundred years previous to the current timeline... 2nd edition was all built around the Second War for Armageddon, with the Third War being introduced in 'real-time' during third (was it third? might have been early 4th, I was still involved with the game at the time and I missed most of 4th/5th)

Shield of Baal is 998, same as 3rd War for Armageddon.
