Total: 1850 on the money

The tournament will be using combined missions from eternal war and maelstrom, with a scoring system based on vp and kp total comparison. I know there are a few points spread around that people will be attacking right away with other options, but most of them are fully intended to hopefully stay, for instance, the Crystal matrix, star engine combo, I know it's expensive but I feel it's an underused trick that no one will expect, and given the role of the wraithguard as vehicle distruction it is quite fitting. One thing I'm debating on is whether to keep the bikes split as they are or lump them into one large unit. My plan is to keep the guardians on foot covering DZ objectives in cover supported by conceal and taking potshots at vehicles or MCs with the lance, run the bikes and DA serpent around for tacticals and fly the wraithguard across the board on first turn at the most threatening either tank or MC, the WK will use his (hopefully) twinlinked cannon to take out infantry in droves, while the remaining units all do their regular shenanigans. Any constructive criticism is welcome, and please be gentle as I'm new to the forums, this is my first post lol.

Overall its a very fragmented list. Not horrible, but could be trimmed down to get rid of bad upgrades and get more units on the board.

1) Ghostwalk Matrix doesnt make sense unless ur FLGS has insane amounts of terrain and they count everything as dangerous.

2)WindRiders should have Cannons, really well worth the points.

3) I think it makes more sense to have your Wave Serpent with Scatter Lasers, and your Wraithknight as it comes. This is more point cost effective.

4)Fire Prism doesnt need Spirit Stones

5) I dont think the Crimson Hunter needs to be an Exarch, not a huge deal tho.

6) Guardian Defenders in the open really dont make sense with your list. More Bikes would, or another Dire Avenger unit in WS would. Guardian Defenders are out of place.

Thank you smitty, for your well thought out and detailed critique. I will definitely keep your advice in mind and try to move some points around. I would like to respond to your line items though, given as you took the time to respond...

You're right about it being fragmented, but as I said the missions will combine eternal war objectives with maelstrom so I was looking to try dealing with both

1. Ghostwalk matrix; while I do see your point, in probably 2/3 of games that I've not used them in, I've lost a skimmer to failed terrain tests, more often a WS. And yes tournament tables do tend to be less cluttered, but I'd be super nervous just dropping them, if I have still points left over I may still keep them for my own sanity lol.

2. I thought about the cannons, but typically the bikes are just turbo boosting between tactical objectives, so I considered them mostly wasted points. In your experience does the increased power of the cannons make a big enough difference on the few occasions they actually shoot?

3. The Serpent with lances has them specifically to use in tandem with the Crystal matrix after the 36" move across the board, to hopefully get lucky enough to blow the intended target vehicle up in one shot, I very rarely shoot my serpent shield so the scatter lasers aren't always quite as useful for me.
With as much high S shooting as the rest of the army has, I felt the Knight was fine with that loadout, especially since it also comes with an invuln being as it will be the #1 target on my opponents hitlist and the new cover rules may make it tricky to augment his 3+ with a cover save. If I do drop him down to stock i may move other units intended roles around with it

4. I use stones on the prism so that if a single shot at ap3 or worse is thrown at it, I can have a better option to decide to gamble and not jink or if its in regular cover and i fail the save, possibly sac a hullpoint yes, but 66% chance of shaken/stunned which I could most likely ignore and then not have to snapshoot, losing 2/3 of its gun options and most of its usefulness. I think that is well worth 10 measely points. But if I need the points for something more important they are somewhat expendable

5. You're absolutely right. It's just habit because my regular friendly lists are alaitoc based so I throw exarch on everything lol. Especially if I am just keeping the lance weapons, the upgrade is mostly wasted. Those points and the marksmans eye on the spider exarch will give me 30 to start from with implementing some changes.

6. The point of the guardian squad is a combination of the bright lance and a place for the second farseer to be, as well as a "vehicle" so to speak for the other warlock, to add more to my defense dice should I play demons or another psyker heavy army. I currently only own 6 bikes and 2 wave serpents, and I wasn't planning on making more model purchases in the near future. But perhaps you would be kind enough to pick something from my remaining models that may suitably replace the unit?

I have:

10 storm guardians (not really a good sub I know but just listing for GP)
15 rangers, and illic nightspear
5 more avengers, exarch included
6 fire dragons, exarch included (useless without another serpent)
5 swooping hawks
3 more spiders and another exarch model (I have 11 total, 2 exarch and 9 regular)
A single vyper, lol
Another (albeit horribly painted) fire prism, also worth noting that my other prism is magnetized to also be a night spinner
And a wraithlord who is mag'd to have either double lances or a lance/SL combo

1) Ghostwalk Matrix doesnt make sense unless ur FLGS has insane amounts of terrain and they count everything as dangerous. Well, difficult terrain is just as bad as dangerous terrain for vehicles. GWM is a decent upgrade, better than what you think.

2)WindRiders should have Cannons, really well worth the points. I disagree. Having a cannon makes the player want to play aggressive (or at least more aggressive) than what their used for, and that is scoring objectives. Stay out of los all game, then on last turn jump out and take objectives.

Just going to keep it simple, I agree with points 2,3,4,5 and 6 but agree the the GWM is quite often worth the points, and sometimes allowing you the 3+ cover without having to jink is nice too.

I'd also be tempted to add D-scythes to the wraithguard if your going to be up close, but that may be personal preference.
I also don't feel like the upgrades are quite needed on the warpspiders but again, I think that's personal choice.
I would also be tempted to drop the warlock and give the farseer MotLG, just because it's so effective in my games that I've used it but you may be lacking on the psychic if you do.

Yeah, I was thinking if I drop the suncannon on the knight i would in turn give scythes to the wraiths, effectively switching their roles. My FLGS has a lot of competitive tau players so MotLG makes me very weary of ignores cover weapons, otherwise I would consider it more. And my spider exarch is there solely because monofilament ap1 doesn't work on vehicles, so 3 shots at bs5 that can blow them up is useful, as is ignoring armor without needing 6's lol...

With Jetbikes having an assault move you can utilize the cannons while keeping them out of LOS. You shoot, then move back behind cover in the assault phase. With BS4 I really think a Jetbike squad becomes alot more effective with cannons especially with the minimal point cost.

With the model constraint you have your fine, would be worthwhile investing in another Wave Serpent. Sometimes you can snag em off Ebay for 15-25$, really makes it affordable.

1850 it seems too much.

game vs life
Alpha Legion (HH era) - 6000pts finished
Army of Mousillon - Bretonnian Black Knight army - 3000pts (66% painted)
Host of Xblanque - Lizardmen Army - 7000pts (50% painted)
Irrational negativity is the engine that drives the forums
Reserves: 534 (can be fielded, but wont, at least at the moment)

I suppose I can just throw a spear on the farseer and hit 1847 unless someone has a better suggestion? And as far as the other serpent is concerned, that's just how I built the model and I don't want to have a WYSIWYG debate with any opponents

Thank you. Still another month until the tournament, I'll give it a couple practice runs and see how it fairs

I've used the Ghostwalk Matrix + Holo-fields in tandem with the +1 cover from a TFC. Having a serpent sit in 2+ cover all game works wonders.

TFC? The only thing I can think of is Thunderfire Cannon lol... I fear I may be missing the point

Thunder fire cannon's techmarine grants +1 cover to one piece of terrain on the board after deployment.
Putting your GM/HF serpents in the +3 cover and moving 1 inch every turn gives you +2 cover.

Oh gotcha, that's interesting. I'll definitely keep it in mind for a doubles game
