So, I have painted up the DA portion of the Dark Vengeance set, and am looking to expand this fledgling Dark Angels force.

I have bought a few more units, including an Army box (Ravenwing, basically) and also a Bike Command set. My questions pertains to HQ choices, putting together a bike blob, and also how to build the Command Kit--should I go with that, the Apothecary, Champion, and Banner, or should I go with Knights as a (small) flanking force?

Is it practical to have a bike-mounted HQ so as to enable that Command Squad?

How do people kit out that HQ? As a Librarian? (Any photos of conversions would be greatly appreciated, since I think there is no model for a bike-mounted Librarian, yes?)

Or as a Chapter Master? (Is this points efficient in any way?)

I would appreciate any guidance in this regard.

So when I played DA here's what I did:

Build the kit as a command squad, they're actually cheaper than Black Knights, I added in an Apothacary and magnetized/pinned one guys arm to switch between a Bolt Pistol and the Banner.

For the HQ, at the time I was in a Narrative Campaign so I put an Interrogator Chaplain on a bike, but I also had a Bike librarian made for that. My Bike Librarian was the top half of the Dark Vengeance bro chopped onto a Dark Vengeance Biker Sgt. with a Grey Knight Falchion sword cause idk, I thought it was cool.

Champion, nu-uh, not really worth it. You can take that Bike Shrine though and slap it onto another bike for your IC conversion, I did that for my Interrogator Chaplain.

RW command squads are one of the most efficient units available for DA.

I used the DV librarian, cut him in half and put him on a bike. Get another box to give you the max unit of 5.

I hate to hack up that Librarian, though--he's such a cool minature. But on a bike, T5, more mobile, etc. is much better.

He's not to difficult to find on Ebay, I think i've seen him for as low as $1.99-$5.00 on Buy it Now. When I had Dark Angels I think I had about 5 of the DV Librarians. Happy converting!

I definitely think that there are enough cool Bitz in that Command/Knight bike box to convert up a sweet ride for an HQ character. So, e-bay it is, and off to conversion land!

One more question: Can I put that Librarian on a Bike with Plasma Talons, or only the Bolters? (Don't have the Codex with me right here)

The DA expansion box that came out not too long ago was a reasonable bargain if you're looking to save some money. From the sounds of it I'm not sure if you'd use the deathwing in it though, so up to you. Definitely a nice way to expand I believe.

Yeah, definitely a good price. Sadly, and ironically, I bought EXACTLY those models to expand my force...in July, before the box set came out. Oh well.

Besides this "bike mob" idea, I'm just trying to go fluffy--I've got an Emperor's Champion model that I am going to convert into Azrael (I don't like his "real" model...) and I will build a Command Squad to protect him. I am otherwise going to try to run a Ravenwing and Deathwing heavy force as troops. I have the Flyer, but don't know how to build it yet; probably the Nephilim rather than the other (Stasis bomb) one. I love the Deathwing Knights, too, and although they won't be troops, I love the idea of them teleporting in to do the dirty work.

It's not going to be competitive, I know, but hopefully it will be fun.

If you are just looking for more boddies to fill your bike and termie forces, you can get the ones from DV on ebay, as well as the DA half of DV for pretty cheap if you keep an eye out. If you get the whole DA half, that would also give you the spare Libby to do the above mentioned conversion. Plus having extra plasma gun and plasma cannon guys for your tacs/dev squads is a plus.

I was slow to get back here, but no unfortunately HQs only get TW Bolters No Plasma Talons.
