I have seen several places people referencing the requirement to have 4 warriors in the brood of warriors for the living artillery node, but reading the entry on the data slate I don't see anything and I don't see in the codex a requirement to have 4 to have th basic bio cannon. Am i missing a rule somewhere for this?

Nope. 3 Warriors with 1 Barbed Stranger or Venom Cannon is all you need. 100 Total Points.

You don't. You need 3 warriors and one needs to be equipped with a bio-cannon. That's the only requirement for that unit.
