Hi there.
It's Ogyon and Yria from Insomnia Painting Studio. We will use this thread, to show some commission paintjobs done in our studio.
Not, sure but we might have posted some (or not) in this forum. But let's call it a "fresh start"
Anyone that might want to ask for something or have their army painted, feel free to contact us.

Have fun!

And as for a start, we will show an 40k Eldar Wraithknight. Colorscheme is chosen by the customer.
Hope you like it!!

Thank you for your comments, guys. We are glad you like our paintjobs.

So, now a Morkanaut, high quality paintjob, is to be shown. In this commission, we tried to paint the model in a "BigMek's Dreamy" way. Plenty of lights, colors and alike, but with the poor paintjob, the grease and the corrosion of the scrap-metals always there. Of course many OSL there to fill the scene... Hope you like the result.

Here's another commission paintjob we did. Some Eldar Warp Spiders. The colors are customer's choice. The web on their back is a freehand sketch.

The models look great, except the OSL. the OSL looks like someone took an opaque paint in an air brush, and kinda went "outside the lines" when painting the round balls that don't really look like lights. I'd suggest applying a high gloss paint of some kind to the lights themselves, or even a clear nail polish. As far as the osl goes, it's important that a yellow light will not tint an orange piece of metal the same color yellow as the light itself is.

For example, if you shine a yellow light on a red surface, it will tint the paint red with a hint of orange. But for simplicity sake, it will appear almost exactly the same as a white light on that same red surface, but a bit darker.

When shining a yellow light on an orange surface, it will still be orange. (orange pigment absorbs blue, and reflects yellow and red. there is no blue in a yellow light.) So a yellow light will reflect on an orange surface almost exactly the same as a white light would.

Now here is where your paint gets really wonky. If you shine a blue light onto an orange surface, it will have very little effect at all. (orange paint absorbs blue light) It certainly won't turn the orange blue.

As a result, the OSL looks more like brightly colored bumps on the tank that were painted in true ork fashion. It doesn't look bad, it looks very orky. But if you were going for OSL, doing OSL with colored light is very very tricky and you should read up on subtractive vs additive colors.

To make it easy to figure out what color to paint OSL with colored lights, you could buy a set of colored filters for lights. (you should be able to buy them at hobby stores) Darken your room, then shine the colored light on your model. That will show you the color that will be cast by that color light.

Colored light OSL can look AMAZING when done properly.

All that said, the models look great. If the advice is unwanted, then I apologize for offering it.

That corrosion and scuffing on it is spot-on, though! Really extraordinary!

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the particulate.

Thanx for you answers guys.
#emmagine , let's just say "if client doesn't paint for all this work you are talking about, he gets what is shown"

It really isn't more work, and if your client paid for colored OSL, he may be disappointed. it's simply making sure you're brushing on the right colors for OSL. When in doubt, you're better off to go treat the colored lights as white light. it will look closer to correct.

For a cheat sheet for orange, I'll give you the following as you are only using blue, yellow, and green lights that I can see, and it's all on orange. So here are how the colors would cast.

Yellow: slightly less red in the orange.
Blue: Blue will not create OSL on an orange material. but you could cheat it and treat it like a dim white light.
Green: Same tint as the yellow gives.

Barring those options, there is a simpler one that will create a passable effect. Invest in some translucent paints. This will allow you to tint without "painting over" when you are airbrushing on OSL. It won't be 100% right, but it will look better than using opaque.

Your work is unbelievable. I wish I hit the lottery so I could afford your work. Have you ever worked on 15mm Flames Of War stuff?

We are really glad you like our work, purerockfury. You can ask for prices on models you would like to have painted, and see that is it is not that expensive as you might think.

About flames of war, we have painted a Soviet Army in the past. ( I might have pictures of that, but not sure).

Cheers!

Haemonculus. High Quality Commission paintjob. The buyer requested the model to seem like the GW boxart, so we had not much to do on the model. What we changed is that we blended the colors instead of the hard edging GW painter used on that boxart. Sad that the shadows are not that clear due to bad light, during the photoshooting. (kinda burnt).

Some eldar hornets. There where more models than we shooted, but 2 of them are enough to show the result.
The painting style, is of our customer's choice.

The kit from FW, was rly bad, tbh. I had to resculpt the models. But I think the community is used to this problem.

First attempt on Harlequins.
Since our customer is building a full army, we are trying to find the patterns on their clothes that would suit those guys.
So we did some dice, some freehand sketches on the clothes and a first test on colors.
Pictures suck, I know, but I had no more time to shoot properly. So almost every photo is there to show a part of the miniature, rather than the total result.

We recently painted some minis, for a customer's D&D sessions.
FYI D&D shares the same size as Warhammer fantasy and 40K (28mm-32mm) and since that we use to play warhammer, with
the same minis we play mordheim, or WHFB.
The miniature we are showing here, is a Reapermini one.
