I'm a bit perplexed by all release channels nowadays, but I've noticed that up until recently codex supplements came with Cities of Death Stratagems. This includes my Crimson Slaughter dex. But, looking through the big rule book as well as the Cities of Death rules in Shield of Baal:Leviathan I find no mention of them.

So, are they dead and no longer of any use, or am I missing something?

I so badly want to use Extoplasma guns for my Chosen.

There is so much crap out there for 40K right now, I doubt even GW knows all of it.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if GW "forgot" or just quietly dropped the whole idea and just hasn't said anything about it.

I'm so lost when it comes to Fortifications, Super Heavies, Lords of War, Cities of Death, etc., all are supposedly valid rules, but scattered all over the place, contradict each other, written for prior editions with no updates, etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong, I like those things, I just wish GW would release Cities of Death for 7th Ed, including all the rules from the BWB (Big White Book) and expanding on them. A new Escalation book with the updated rules including the new Superheavy damage tables, would be great too.

I think that mechanic got removed from the game with the new cities of death.

THINK.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Yeah as I understand it Planetstrike got new rules for 7th in a the Sanctus Reach campaign supplement recently. And Cities of Death came with Shield of Baal campaign supplement. My interpretation of "fully updated rules for .." regarding is that both of these replace the previous standalone expansions? I haven't checked the former if Planetstrike Stratagems are still in, but the later makes no mentions of the Stratagems. So I guess that means they are now out.

And still GW released Codex supplements very recently with them in. I'm a bit puzzled by the cohesion of GWs release plans/formats, and generally confused by GW putting rules updates and expansions inside campaign supplements.

Planetstrike update does use stratagems but the newest Cities of Death update does not mention them, that said there is literally nothing stopping you from still using them.

Planetstrike can be great fun but too many specifics are left for the player to decide; I'm working on trying to figure a, very basic, 'how many points of fortifications' versus 'how many stratagems' relationship to make it more balanced. I'll post them on my blog when I make some headway. :-)

The way city fight works now, with the Maelstrom of War model, I don't think stratagems are really needed, but again you could effortlessly implement them into your games.

The Cities of Death update... honestly.. isnt usable IMO. I am going to use the objectives and just continue with the old book. Since all they did was make it a regular game with some different tactical objectives. Its only 2 pages of rules.

The rules are indeed 'sleek' but what's unusable about them? We've been using them just fine and really enjoying them?

I agree it's almost exactly Maelstrom of War, except you need 'at least' 6 buildings/ruins, you need to place objectives in buildings/ruins, and you use the new (and better) objectives. It works fine and is good fun, I don't understand why it has to be choked with new rules to be usable?

I meant as a replacement for CoD. they are fine but just in now way update all the content from CoD. for us (any city game always has more than 6 buildings anyway so the only change is just different objectives. So like i said we are goig to use the objectives combined with the rules from the CoD book. so we are taking this as a supplement rather than a replacement.
