So im making my own space marine chapter and wanted to use the lysander model as my chapter master. My chapter will be a successor chapter of the imperial fists so there will be little if any conversion work done. Just a different colour scheme as they will be red and white. Would anyone have a problem with this in a game or is it a big problem using the model without the rules

As long as it is wysiwyg I would not see a problem. So if you bring a chapter master with thunder hammer/storm shield in terminator armor, or since successor use Lysander's rule you will be fine, just before game identify if using Lysander's rules or not. Me personally use Njal's model for rune priest in terminator armor.

If he's a dude in Terminator armor with a Thunder Hammer and storm shield, there shouldn't be any confusion. Unless you were running Imperial Fists chapter tactics, which could get a little confusing since people would be expecting Lysander. Even then though, it probably won't be anything too bad. Go for it.

It's fine - the Lysander model itself is pretty much just a generic terminator commander with a SS and TH. I would actually just go ahead and use Lysander's rules for him (since you're already using IF CTs). It doesn't matter if he represents the Chapter Master of your own chapter instead of Lysander - there's no rules about the role playing aspect of the game, so he can be Commander So and So.

Mainly the aim was him to be the chapter master of my own chapter - the brazen fists. People at my gaming group get touchy about proxies so was making sure it would be ok to use him as a chapter master

Using the model I can't see why anyone would have a problem, but if you used his RULES you might ruffle some feathers. Specifically Lysander has Eternal Warrior and Icon of Obsinacy, and his TH is a relic (The Fist of Dorn) as opposed to a standard TH. Standard Chapter Masters don't have those. If you are using the stat line for, and paying the points of, a Chapter Master in Terminator Armor with a TH/SS and people give you guff about playing with a Lysander model, I say you find new opponents.

Personally I'd say use Lysander rules. That dude is a badass.

Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it. Use the models you want to use. If they're a normal person who wants to play with a lot of plastic models (like a lot of us are) then they won't be at all bothered. Plus I'd probably forget mid game and say, "dude, your Lysander has S10 not 8."

Actually, that's really good...Lysander's shield normally has "Lysander" written across the ribbon under the Aquila...It's the one piece of text I've actually managed to get on a model and not just scribbles like most banners, ribbons, oaths...but for yours have the the ribbon say "NOT Lysander"! GENIUS!!!!

It's why it's a "counts as". Nothing stops you from taking a IC/SC from an army list, while using that army list, and slapping a new name on it. That's actually kind of the point of the "forge the narrative" bit. Provided you paid the points cost and FOC-slot (if any) for the unit you're "alting", then there should be no issues.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I did a bit of conversion work on my Lysander model to make him fit my DA/C:SM custom chapter. I gave him a deathwing knight storm shield, used some green stuff and DA bits to make his TH a bit more DA themed, and filed off a few fists. At first this was so I could use him as Lysander back in 5th but still have him fit with my army theme and colour. I now also use him as a Belial with TH/SS. I just make it clear to my opponent. He is either a regular captain or sergeant with TH/SS and terminator armor, Lysander, or Belial.

I have never once had anyone have a problem with this. I have had a few people tell he they liked the idea though.

In the end, as long as you let your opponent know what he is (ie CM, Captain, or the Lysander character) at the beginning of the game and he is WYSIWYG, go nuts, you *shouldn't* have any problems.
