First of all, I asked Ratius about this and he was cool with it.
For me, it was my first game with my CSM. My opponent had a Land Raider, Dreadnought, and Stormtalon that was ripping my army apart/shrugging off obscene amounts of firepower. At turn 3, my Chaos Lord smashed the Dreadnought with his Meltabombs. At turn 4, Lady Luck shine upon me as he did it again against the Raider, and the Stormtalon was shot out of the sky with an Icarus Lascannon. Manned by my Cultists

I usually enjoy games with weird stuff happening. For example nearly shooting down a Stormraven with Rangers.

My last game. The local WAAC guy shows up with recently purchased plastic grey necron croissant army. His experience with multiple flyers on the table is little to non-existent (his main armies are Tau, Eldar and GK in 5th.) so I plan to fully exploit this.
Turn 2, his 2 doom scythes (if that's the name of the HS croissant) enters the board. Both focus their death ray-thingy on my Cents but they survive thanks to forewarning from Tigurius. Next round, I place my cents exactly 17,5" from heavy croissant 1, my blob squad moves the same way (with help from Move! Move! Move! Order in the shooting phase) in front of heavy croissant 2. I focus fire with everything I have. I killed off 1 transport croissant, the 2 heavy croissants got immobilized. In his following movement phase, I politely announced to him that his was forced to crash his 2 heavy croissants, because he couldn't place them on top of my units.
I won the game. Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.

It's a tie between 2 games. A casual 500 points, my DA vs Wolves. I had never looked through the psychic powers much, mostly just ran telepathy or biomancy. Before the game I noticed a certain "psychic maelstrom" in telekinesis and jokingly said yep, I'm going to roll a 6 (needed to get that power). You know what, I don't even need to roll, it's a guaranteed 6. He said if I really wanted to, but he'd prefer I roll. I rolled a fething 6. dropped a total of 3 psychic maelstroms that game, 1 killing his warlord and 3 hunters, the other 2 getting 6 and 4 kills respectively. So much win.
The second and probably better was against a WAAC tau player. Let me say psychic shriek is the best power ever for killing big things. Rolled a 17 on my psychic shriek to kill 3 missile broadsides and 2 drones, rolled a 15 with it against a riptide, and rolled an 18 with it against farsight and friends. Explode all the brains!!!

In recent games it was a large 7k game with my opponent's only superheavy being in the center, a knight. It was surrounded by many other heavy shooty units. I drop podded a Heresy melta support squad and inflicted all but one hp point in damage. I had a sicarian that had range and fired all of its guns and managed to take out the last point. The destruction roll was the biggest boom he could get and effectively I gutted the firepower center of his army and the rest of the game was mostly dealing with outflankers and wiping the few units he had left in his deployment zone.
As for all time it was back in 2nd edition, the final battle of a 3 month highly complex campaign pitting my Night Lords versus my opponent's tyranids. They came tromping across the field in a massive wave of bugs, his hive tyrant in the center. Back in those days, there was no such thing as flyrants, your HQ was your Hive Tyrant, if I remember right he was a psyker too. Oh yeah, losing synapse was baaaad. So I had set my army up in a firing line knowing he would be coming to me. Bugs had no real shooty stuff then, carnifexes spat plasma and were otherwise pure melee and no such thing as hive or brood guards. So here they come, mid field, Tyrant in the middle. My chaos vet squad autocannon guy fires the first shots of the game targeting the tyrant(no LOS then) hits with two of the three shots(sustained fire dice)both, tyrant fails his armor saves, each shot I think inflicted 1d4 wounds and I maxed out both rolls, killing the tyrant and sending the entirety of his army out of synapse with no way of recovering, he conceded. Campaign won with the firing of a single autocannon. We then had our commanders duke it out for the hell of it. My 365 point commander won three out of five fights(level four nurgle psyker, with daemon blade, terminator armor, combat drugs, and a displacer field)
|
If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |

Happiest I've ever been during a game?
Had a rough time with an objective based game. Managed to win with a single model on the board, who on the last turn, made a mad dash to barely secure it, literally running between two enemy units and through cover to do it.

Probably when my Ravenwing command squad was about to be assaulted by my friends thunderwolf cavalry, the cavalry were so close they had almost no chance of failing the charge. He declared his charge I decided to overwatch and hit 7 out of 8(had grenade launcher on 5th guy but he hit with the bolt pistol) shots with the Plasma Talons on the bikes and wounded 7 times, he had storm shields on the TWC but I still ended up killing the closest 3 so he ended up failing the charge and loosing 3 TWC. He even was laughing when he saw 7 out of 8 hits, and still brings up my ridiculous luck, he watched me roll them in front of him and I use dice that are large enough to be easily seen across the table.

When my gaming club did a massive game of 40k, it was Orks vs everyone else, not apocalypse as nobody had any super heavies.
About 10 thousand points of Orks from two players, against everything the rest of us could bring, we never added up our total, not too planned just mayhem and loads of little awesome moments on both sides during the game.

Hmmm...choices...
I think I'm going to have to go for the multiple-turn shootout between Guardsman Frakkin' Marbo and the remnants of the bunched-up Termagant unit he dropped his demo charge on. That game had a lot of back-and-forth firefights, and I'd thrown Marbo in to tip the balance in one. He did, and the way he was placed (behind an objective on top of a cliff) meant that the scattered survivors of the unit he exploded couldn't simply charge him. He picked off all but one with his pistol, ducking return fire over the course of the last half of the game. Alas, he finally caught a flesh-eating beetle with his face, but only after ensuring that my center held, and he was promptly avenged by a half-mauled squad of Guardsmen.
It was pretty awesome for both parties!

Land Raider Pilot on Cruise Control
|
I have two moments that make me equally happy.
They were both against the same guy (this guy is about 5 years younger than I am, but he's a WAAC kind-of-guy)
So, first game:
I had two models left; my Libby, and my CM.
I was losing, and it was the last turn of the game. So, on my turn, I rushed my Libby to one objective, but forgot it was the last turn and tried to cast a power to make him more durable, resulting in a perils and death.
So, my CM had moved towards the opponent's board edge (he had an objective there). I turbo-boosted up to the next floor of the ruin, didn't kill myself, and contested the objective, making the game 5 - 1 to me. He looked like he was about to cry over it, which made me feel a little bad.
He was okay with me moving up the ruins until he realised I'd won. Then he started saying "You can't go up ruins. Where does it say you can?" etc, etc.
Second game:
Same points, I used the same list. He was using a different army
I won 2 - 1.
He was trying to tell me that wrecked vehicles don't block LoS because they were wrecked and "had holes in them". I wasn't allowed to Jink because he chose his unit and targeted my bikes (He declared the target he rolled his dice). He was moving models in on charge range before I'd even rolled anything for overwatch (this would have actually saved a couple of units from dying).
So, when it came to shooting with his Dreads on his next turn, I pointed out he couldn't shoot me because I was out of his firing arc. When I showed him the page (he was adamant it was 180 degree, and just kept repeating it again and again), he accepted it and (again) he looked like he was about to cry his eyes out over it.
This kid is about 14 or 15 years old.
I should clarify that I didn't enjoy it because he looked like he was going to cry (I'm not that cruel to children! I only demand their souls so that I may feast). It was because of his general attitude. I was happy to beat him.

I don't know, every game with orkses has some hilarious moments.
It was awesome when a single surviving grot stood just between 2 huge rocks blocking the path to an imperial knight! If the knight shot something else, he'd also have to shoot the gobbo to charge him meaning he'd either have to shoot a 2-shot BC and hope that both shots scatter off or a stabber and hope that all shots miss or roll 1-s (both very unlinely) or he'd kill off the grot and wouldn't be able to charge anything and basically stand in place for a turn. Or he'd have to forego shooting completely and charge a single grot with a freaking imperial knight!
Also, 2 empty droppods killing more orks on explosions than the whole blood angel army across the game.

Boosting Black Templar Biker
|
Me (SM) and a friend (DE) were playing one of the really old battle scenarios where I had to defend a centre point for 6 turns before my army could be successfully "extracted"
Straight out the gate, Dark Lances blow up every single tank/transport I have, his warriors kill about 3 squads of Marines. Leaving me with 1 Chapter Master, 2 tact squads and a Dreadnaught who Podded in turn 1.
But then, around turn 4, on the cusp of losing (He was within 1" of the objective and I needed to remove him before the end of my turn or I lose), my Chapter Master single-handedly charges a unit of Warriors and Incubi, beating them into paste and my large contingent of Grey Knights deep strike perfectly and purge the entire board of every last Xenos.
It was part 2 of a 3 part narrative campaign we were doing, and it was fecking awesome. I'd go on to lose the final battle, but we still remember that one game fondly.

Most games with my orks, but I'll pick a few special moments:
-Gretchin shooting their grot blastas causing a necron army to phase out (this was a while ago)
-Squad of 3 kannons singlehandedly glancing a Land Raider to death over a about 5 turns
-Squad of 10 gretchin fighting a Harpy for 4-5 rounds of combat and not dying to win me the game
-Rolling massive (100+) handfulls of dice

Big game of 2k points of my DA vs my friend's DE. Pretty gory, both side lost a lot of casualties. It ended up being a tie, but the best part was my Dread. Podded in, did almost nothing, and he decided to ignore it in favor of objectives. I've only done it once, but I managed to make an 11" charge with him into the back of his transport. Glanced it with HoW, then punched it in its rear with 2 penetrates and rolled a 6 to make it explode. Still my best memory.

My best moment has to be when I had two Mycetic Spores (old Nid codex, BS2, A6, S6 shots - 6" range) carrying Dakkafexes drop in behind two Doom Scythes. I promptly shoot with my Dakkafexes, scoring zero glances, pens, anything because of Jink and Armor. So I shoot with the Spores, score a pen on each, no Jink save made, and proceed to blow up both. Downside? They both ended up crashing into my Gaunt blob killing like 10 Gaunts
Games against the old Ork codex, not matter what always ended up being enjoyable. A Ramshakling Trukk blows up my Wave Serpent? Sure, that's happened. An Exarch turned Squig kills his warlord? Also happened. Pure hilarity.

A recent good moment was my hammerhead tank fired its single shot railgun into the lucky stick mega armored Warboss getting the hit, wounded, and he failed the 2+ lookout sir. The str 10 shot doubled out his Warboss taking all 3 wounds. When I successfully used my Weirdboy to Deep Strike my Green Tide onto the front lines of my opponent's shooty Marine list. The look of utter depression on his face was something I've never seen when playing Orks. Dropping about 90+ Boyz into the only none terrained spot on his side of the board (Just BARELY fitting, mind you) and not scattering was a sight to behold. Mind you, this was during the Psychic Phase of only Turn 2. My excite was unmatched. He took a round of shooting, barely removed enough to matter, and slowly shook my hand in disbelief as he conceded.
A moment I have yet to be able to replicate, but I sorely wish I could

Ancient Venerable Black Templar Dreadnought
|
Most fun game:
3000 points per side.
Fully mechanized space marine army (friend).
Entrenched Imperial Guard with Baneblade (me).
Scenario:
Marines to gain control of planetary network to get population to rebel against compromised government.
They only need a model to "touch" the objectives to take them.
Secondary objective to destroy "the beast" Baneblade to demoralize the enemy troops and ease invasion.
IG to stop them at all costs.
Glorious, bloody insane heroics on all sides.
Marines blown out of their boxes, advancing anyway, unloading their bolters, going into melee, waves of IG getting slaughtered, priests prolonging the beatings...
- A single marine with a rocket launcher made it to an objective to gain a victory point.
- Baneblade big gun could not hit a ruin or building to save it's life, but deviated on everything alive around them... much carnage.
- A las-Pred was duking it out with the Baneblade (among others) and managed to kill the beast getting victory points.
- An IG command squad managed to kill a full marine squad against all expectations.
- Every IG Tank on first contact with difficult terrain got immobilized (bad, bad, rolling).
- The conscript squad with priest jumping a full marine squad and pretty much both of them being stuck in the "tar-pit of doom" for the rest of the game.
- The Rhino after dropping off his guys successfully managing to kill something every turn and taking token shots back and refusing to die... poking away... (irritating).
The marines one by one point at the last turn of the game.
Fantastic, had the Space Marines and IG doing what they both do best and all a smoking ruin at the end.

Many moments in my time, but I'll pick three out in particular:
6th Edition: Ork trukk full of boyz starts game in forest, proceeds to try and move. Mysterious forest result is Carnivorous, which proceeds to pen and explode the open topped truck, but ramshackle meant that the truck careened off to the side into a Battlewagon and immoblizing it.
Best first blood ever!
6th Edition: Apocalypse; my shaken Leman Russ Exterminator with a hunter killer missile tries to shoot an Ork Stompa after doing 1 HP of damage with its autocannons. Roll the neccessary 6 to hit, 6 to pen and proceed to roll another 3 open-ended 6s (as that's how they worked back in the day, when we wore onions on our belt....). Get one more six for an APOCALYPTIC EXPLOSION, killing another whole squad of Nobs, some Warbikers, two Rhinos and a dozen very surprised Khorne Berzerkers.
Best 10 points I ever spent.
7th Edition:
So, when the Armoured Battlegroup list came out, I laughed maniacally at my regular Tyranid player with the advent of the Beast Slayer rounds (instant death small blast St 8AP2 from Vanquishers),
1.5 years later, I finally hit one of his monstrous creatures, in the last game before I left Canada for a long, long time.
I may have frightened the magic player when I let out my suitably Imperial cry of victory (do keep in mind I'm 6.5 and dress in the finest tailored suits and coats I can find; party like it's 1899, adding to the affect I imagine).
