This War Of Mine provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle. For the very first time you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout. At night you get a chance to scavenge nearby locations for items that will help you stay alive.

Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them to endure the hardships. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

Looks absolutely fascinating, if fascinating is the correct word to use here. Negatives seem to be that its too short overall.
The art style and feel though look amazing.

Heard it's good but the lacka of tutorials made me shelf it, don't have the time to find out anything on my own right now.

I picked up in a recent Steam sale and have been playing it a lot in the past few days. You control an initial group of survivors. By day, you build things within your home, maybe have a random visit from a trader or neighbor, and manage things like hunger and depression, At night, you decide who get to sleep, who has to stay on guard, and who goes out to scavenge supplies. Scavenging lets you explore other areas in the city, some more dangerous than others (armed thugs or soldiers), some more morally ambiguous than others (do you simply scavenge or do you steal from others). You can get raided during the night, but you don't get to participate in it; you just see the results based on how many people you have, how many were on guard, what weapons you have, etc. Your people can get injured or sick, so medical supplies are often the most precious commodity in the game, with food being second.

I do think even a simple tutorial would be good (there is nothing at all to tell you what clicking on something will do until you try it). Oh the other hand, having to figure it out as you go does help with the whole survival concept. You'll probably restart several times until you find a groove you like, or a group of survivors you like, or perhaps you just can't go on when your favorite scavenger gets shot down by some thugs.

I do think it is a great game, and, based on my limited PC-centric gaming experience, I think it is easily one of the best games of 2014.

I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

It's a post-apocalypse survival game... "grim" is part-and-parcel of the experience.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Yes but theres grim as in atmosphere and then theres outright depressing and sever melancholy.
Former tolerable, latter not so much.

I think that will vary based on how you play the game, and how well you do.
