Sacrifice to the Dark Gods

This list is for casual games against a Tau player:

1 Chaos Lord
- Mark of Khorne
- Axe of Blind Fury
- Juggernaut of Khorne
- Sigil of Corruption
- Bolt Pistol

Chaos Lord in a unit of...
5 Chaos Bikers
- Mark of Khorne
- Icon of Wrath
- 2 Meltaguns
- Champion with Power Sword
- Champion with Melta Bombs

Also...
3 Chaos Bikers
- Mark of Nurgle
- 2 Meltaguns
- Champion with Power Sword
- Champion with Melta Bombs

2 Units of...
10 Chaos Space Marines
- 2 Meltaguns
- Replaced Bolters with CCW
- Both units in Rhinos with Dirge Casters

And finally...
1 Chaos Vindicator
- Combi-bolter

I'm terrible, so I'll take any advice.
Thanks!

I considered trading in the Vindicator for 4 Terminators with no upgrades, to deepstrike into cover and cause some annoyance.

Rhinos are quite flimsy against TAU.

not sure if you need meltagun on your CHaos Space maines, as they should be charging tau gun lines or even their crisis suits. Melta gun range will be to short to threaten anything once they have popped your rhinos.

Perhaps jumptropps would do better than rhinos?

Take some plasma or Missile launchers to slaughter his T4 W2 3+ crisis suits.

Let the galaxy burn.

Tau things to think about:

1) They have access to lots of jink saves, and can ignore cover. They control the boards cover saves.
2) They have no problem popping rhinos
3) They have lots of high AP shooting and highly armored battlesuits

They way I would take them on is with heldrakes, obliterators, and swarms of stuff.

Heldrakes will fry crisis suits. Avoid cooking broadsides and riptides, their 2+ saves will shrug them off.
Obliterators will take on broadsides and riptides. The game really hinges on these guys not dying, but they probably will. The fact that Tau can kill Oblits so easy really sucks because they are one of our top 3 units.
Swarms of stuff because we have cultists, very cheap and hard to kill them all.

A list I'd take:

Typhus (warlord)
35 Zombies (Typhus goes here)
25 Zombies
25 Zombies
Heldrake- baleflamer
Obliterator- MoN
Obliterator- MoN
Obliterator- MoN

I think you guys are right, especially about the uselessness of Rhinos. I like the idea of using Oblits, although I think the Mark of Tzeentch might be better than the Mark of Nurgle: 2+/4++ is arguably better than T5, although I could be wrong. I also like the idea of jump units and deepstriking to throw him off.

I'm hesitant to use Typhus though, so I'm thinking Apostles instead to give the units fearless.

How about...

2 units of 35 cultists, each with a vanilla Dark Apostle (for the Fearless).

3 Obliterators (individually) with MoT

2 units of 5 Raptors, each with 2 Plasma Guns.

Sound a little better against Tau?

Yup! But wheres the heldrake?

Haha I know, I just have a real hard-on for Raptors. Each unit of Raptors is only 130 points too, so even if I got rid of one, I'd still be 40 points over with a Heldrake :-/

Yeah, at 1000 points, you might actually have an easier time against Tau. It means you have fewer things with markerlights to have to kill.

On that note, you might want to invest in some Havocs with autocannons instead of the Vindicator. Part of the problem with the Vindicator is the range, if you do lose the Rhinos that's what Tau are going to shoot at.

Put the lord in a squad of Spawns. IMO they are better than bikes vs. Tau. Scrap the marines, take cultists, rhinos are basically free FB points for them. Using Jump troops are fine, but leave the plasmas, take either flamers or go barebones. Consider the MoK for +1A on the charge and maybe a power weapon on the champion.

Playing against Tau is less taxing for CSM than it is for others

Khorne is kinda pointless against tau if you ask me, their infantry all have defensive grenades basically making MOK null. I'd advise using at least 1level 3 psyker on a bike in a squad of 5 MON spawn, worked pretty well in my own experience
