Is there anyway to open up a 4th heavy support slot running vanilla marines (imperial fists)? I don't see any detachment options listed in codex SM or sentinels of terra.
Here is the list I want to run:
Chapter Master
Command squad x 5 in (RHINO)
tac squad x10 in (RHINO)
tac squad x10 in (RHINO)
tac squad x10 in (RHINO)
devastator centurions x3 (lascans/Missiles)
1 stormtalon gunship
1 thunderfire cannon
2 predators annihilators ( autocan/ lascannon sponsors)
Exactly 1850pts, I simplified for you guys.
Issue is there is 4 Heavy choices in this list. I can't combine the preds to make a "squadron" . Sure I could go unbound, but I like force org. I really do. I don't want to get rid of my cents or TF cannon, so im trying to find a detachment or something. Any ideas other than unbound? Because then ill be asking my opponents permission to field my list and I want to avoid that. Besides, I truly think this list is awesome. Also, I thought of things like running just 1 pred, with maybe an ironclad but that would put me about 20 points over. I don't want to use a regular dread. IM leveraging that power armor and armor 13.
Please and thank you

Add a fourth Troop choice and you've got enough units to simply take 2 detachments.

Unfortunately then he's got another 65 pts minimum for an HQ, but that is probably the cheapest way. Other option is to run an allied detachment of a different chapter tactic(I think that gets around the whole allied detachment can't br same faction as primary thing). If not, he can split one of the tac squads to run as two five man squads and then find 65 pts for a librarian to meet the FOC for a second detachment.

good ideas, I could make it work....I don't want to waste 65 freakin points on a lousy lvl 1 librarian tho.
Ya guys think people will rage at me over 1 extra pred in my list? In reality it isn't spam or really THAT unbound...
I even hate the idea of being considered unbound tho

Run a Sentinels of Terra list. Then your Centurions can slide into a elite slot.

Okay, do I have take any required units for this? or do I simply just use their special rules? I don't have the SENT codex in front of me, do they still get tank hunter? Is there any required formation to take ?

No required units, you just use the special rules. They have Chapter Tactics: Imperial Fists but replace the normal bolter drill with a special version that allows them to reroll ALL misses within half range. You still keep tank hunters. The only possible drawback is on your selected relics. You cannot select Codex: SM relics but must select off the SENT list instead.

Perfect and thank you panzer that was my other question. Good news is I wont be using any relics whatsoever. My philosophy on HQ is to juice him up a tiny bit but keep him reasonable. Relics tend to get a little over board although they can be tempting. And twin linked bolters is fantastic, given I will be pushing mid field with tactical squads and command squad in rhinos. Btw the above list has 4 rhinos. 1 for each of the tacticals and 1 for the command squad. I went ahead and edited it.
What are yours guys thoughts on this list? The real power behind it is leveraging all that power armor. While supporting with some serious fire power. There is a ton of distraction that keeps the opponent constantly choosing between wildling down 35+ marines and going for all the other crazy crap I have fielded. My tac squads will make short work of any enemy scoring units. Then ill just secure what I can turns 4-5. Plus that armor 13 coming on the flank. very hard hitting and in your face but with lots of support to back it up too.

Just as a heads up, you can't take a Command Squad without having a certain character (not a Chapter Master), so you might want to look into that.

I'm almost 100% positive you can take a 1 command squad for HQ choice in your list. (chapter master, chaplain, librarian, captain).
Chapter master also unlocks option for honor guard, which is limited to only the chapter master.

Chapter Masters unlock honor guard only.
Bumping down the CM to a Captain wouldn't really hurt your particular list and would allow the honor guard plus provide you the points to turn that extra predator into an ironclad.

Yep, Chap master only gets you honour guard, it's pretty clear cut in the codex-command squad is only for captain/ chaplain/librarian. If you want target saturation and a bit of extra bite, you could bump down the CM to a captain and upgrade the command squad transport to a razorback instead, which will carry the captain+command squad while getting you an extra tank weapon.
Ironclad is a dicey choice without an insertion method (drop pod); can never remember off the top of my head if the Storm Talon is the one that can carry Dreadnoughts though, so you might have that covered already.

Would you take an ironclad over anther pred? It seems to me that ironclads are very close quarter oriented. Probably would be shot to bits before reaching the enemy with only 1. I feel havin not one but two preds poses a greater threat.
As far as the chapter master I wanted him for orbital bombardment. honestly its the best 40 points spent IMO. 40 points gets you an extra wound and orbital bombardment...what a steal.
Might have to go honor guard then, ill lose my apothecary which would of been nice. But gain 2+ around the board. Still can get 5 honor guard around similar price too because they come with a power weapon.

That razorback idea though... I like it. Would you guys sacrifice the OBomb? I feel like it's a nice little trick to have up your sleeve.

This is why you need an insertion plan-drop pod being a cheap method. Gets right up into their face without having to footslog it, and keeps the heat off most of your army for a bit.

These are some of the many reasons people take them.

You might want to work in the ironclad then-nice synergy with the close-combat nature of your honour guard, otherwise they will get swarmed.

Not sure where others fall on this, but I generally run my HQ as a captain rather than a chap master. Depends on what you're planning on doing with him, other than using the OBomb.
