As the title says I'm trying to find a base and all I have are pictures. Saw these on another forums but been a while since it was made. They say it's a 60mm base with removeable 25 mm bases. Anyone have any clue where I can find it though, or a good way to make one from scratch?

Also what size base do you guys suggest for 1/72 scale models? I was thinking 25 mm would be a good size, if anything a little large.

You can tell by the edge it's cut from some sort of wood product. I think it's just lazer cut 2mm wood bases from litko. Net. They then just made a hole in the flocking material the 25th bases nest into.

Base size is usually determined by the rules you want to play as well as the scale of the figures.

Frontage and overall size matters more in Ancients and Napoleonics, where armies need to keep a continuous line, than in WW2 games.

There are several popular WW2 sets out now, such as Flames of War and Bolt Action. I should find out the base sizes recommended in those for 1/72 and use a good compromise.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

For the 1:72 stuff I've done, mostly vignettes/mini dioramas, I've used 3-4 models on a 40mm base; I don't particularly look of single 1:72 minis on a base, so my suggestion is to multi-base on 30-50mm bases depending on how many models you place on the base.

If you do want single bases, I'd suggest you want nothing larger than 15mm, but even that may be hard to find.

I'd agree that multi basing (usually based on whatever the rules specify) is ideal for 1/72. If you're using an individually based game like Bolt Action, then I'd suggest either 20mm rounds (EM4 has them cheap) or something smaller,

Proxie has 20mm and 15mm rounds for bargain prices.

25 is really a bit too big for singly based 1/72 or 20mm (nearly the same size) figures.

Proxie's bases are very nice. They are solid, so you have some meat when it comes to pinning into the base. But they are also pretty low profile, and are thinner than most laser cut bases. Finally, they have a subtle raised lip which makes flocking very easy. I strongly recommend them.

I also agree with Lockark. It looks like those multi-bases in the OP's post have flocking material built up on them, leaving room for the separate base. I expect that the modeler put the extra base on the larger base, built up the base as a whole until it was all even, and then removed the extra base and cleaned up the edges. Of course, there's loads of ways to do that. You could, for example, use a jig of some sort to keep that area clear.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think you got it right lockark just checked out what they have and it does look similar. I will also check out proxie since they seem to be what a few of you recommend. Thanks again

Btw I will be playing bolt action. I think that 20mm bases will be what I go to. The guy I am starting to play the game with wanted to do 28mm round bases and it looks rather silly. Going to talk him into 20mm hopefully. Just need to find a good base size for my snipers now and I will be good.

Just so your friend knows, there aren't any manufactureres that I know of for 28mm bases. The standard GW slotta is 25mm and looks big, and the Privateer Press style rounded side slotta is 30mm.

As for snipers, if you don't mind a bit of overlap, they should look fine on 20mm or even 25mm.
