My particular problem is the staff for the Khador Winter Guard Standard bearer, but the question is valid for pretty much any system. How do you reinforce the poles that carry those heavy (particularly the metal) standards? Any ideas would be welcome, aside from the obvious "be careful when you store them." I got that one.

For my Ogre Kingdoms standards, I cut it down and magnetized the flags/top of the staves. That makes the staff a little shorter and lets me store the two parts separately. The staff on the Khador is a little shorter, smaller, and flimsier.

I use thin brass rods (0.8mm and 1.2mm in diammeter) to either reinforce (by carefully drilling down the centre) or replace banner poles of any significant length (or indeed polearms / 2H hammers such as Sorscha's).

Better to simply replace the pole than try to strengthen it. Cut off any detail bits (wrapped grips and butt-spikes, as well as the obvious banner top) for reattachment, drill out the hands, and replace the white metal pole with some brass rod or piano wire (any stiff wire will do - even a section snipped from a coat hanger would be a structural improvement). If you want to magnetize the banner top, simply drill a bit deeper when it's time to reattach (assuming there's enough material there).

I've used 1 thin brass rod drilled through the hand then slipped an aluminium tube over each end. Becomes very strong & you can make the join between the hand & pole look really good.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

An alternative is to magnetise the arm/banner such that when it does get caught on something it just breaks away.
