... first when we'll see more Forces of War files, asked by our very own George Spiggott

John-Paul wrote:We have a planned schedule with new content and the older books being filled in that will be made public the first week in Jan.
Gregg has been working hard with Casey to get as much converted over as we can but we wanted to get the site live and try and have people use it to iron out any bugs before uploading too many more lists so the schedule starts just after the holiday season.

News on your Flames of War painting and modeling supplies:

Casey at Battlefront wrote:One of the many projects we have been working on in the Studio is a new painting guide covering all the fundamentals of painting Flames Of War models. From how to paint faces and stowage through to how to use our range of decal sheets. As part of this we thought we would take the opportunity rename our paints as a way of making it easier for people to remember which paints to use and when.

However we have created these versions of the Barbarossa and Fate Of A Nation painting guides with the old names to help bridge gap till we have our new book out (early next year).

Barbarossa Guides:
Chris

John-Paul wrote:Yes news on this will come in early Jan for a March launch.
James and Casey have been working on secret "Colours of War" project that wont be secret much longer.
The current range absolutely does the job but we wanted to go further down this path with something dedicated to FOW.
The paint deal is a great way to grab colours that will always be useful before the new plan kicks in next year.
There are all kinds of new things coming in early 2015 for your painting and modelling needs.

And the most interesting, mention of yet another time period coming in 2015:

"Variety is the spice of life" as the saying goes but it is definitely true in war gaming.

What seems like years ago now we did a little experiment to see how us tackling a new period with the Air Cav in Vietnam would go down.
This was driven from a personal desire to see us expand out of WWII and use the FOW rules to tackle other periods.
With a resounding wave of enthusiasm we had our answer and have since then expanded our core release plan to include a new period every year whilst maintaining our WWI plan. Not every period will get the same amount of content as is evident with the difference between the Fate of a Nation book which contains the entire period in one book or Vietnam which we will soon have it's second book, Brown Water Navy, out early next year as well as at least one more planned.
WWI obviously has some more space to expand and we have a book planned just that in Aug 2015.

Even with a new period coming in 2015 to add to the Vietnam, WWI and new WWII books we have chosen to do things completely when we do them.
There will be no part periods. If we do something we want to do it right and give people the complete experience so just like the evolution of the 67 six day war into a complete book no matter how we start we always have plan to make the complete package.

All interesting bits of information.

While the new period is most likely going to end being Korea, I wouldn't mind a Cold War/modern setting either.

Korea seems most likely.

It's been noted that the Israeli decal sheet contains decals that can only be used during the Yom Kippur War.

I'd kill for a 1985 Fulda Gap set-up. I'm currently hoping that Sabre Squadron will work well enough to scratch that itch. But I'd welcome a set of lists for it from BF.

However, if I were BF, and I were inclined to aim toward Fulda '85, I think I'd focus on Yom Kippur first and make sure that I got the ATGM rules done right for that era before moving on to the '80s.

In any event, Korea and Yom Kippur seem like the two most likely options. Fulda is wishful dreaming on my part.

New period every year? Interesting.

Korea is certainly a good choice because allot of the relevant models for vehicles are already available as part of the WW2 ranges, they just has to be repackaged under the Korean War label. This will hopefully mean some Centurion models and perhaps Easy Eights in plastic as they where the still used in Korea.

The Infantry ranges will have to be brand new though. Some of the late WW2 ranges might work for UN forces, but there were some differences in uniform and equipment (recoilless rifles and super bazookas!), especially if they plan on releasing miniatures in Winter uniform.

Agreed. I and many others on the Battlefront forums however want a Cold War setting (I want my M247 Sergeant York )

If they did cold war I would be all over that, my Old man might even have a game too (he spent a lot of time in Germany playing with Cheiftens)

'Cold War' is fairly broad period. You could potentially get several books from it.

I realise that most link ‘Cold War’ with the Regan/Gorbachev era but you could also do potential cold war clashes in the 50s, 60’s or 70’s.

We know that, but it is the 80s retro gaming i think that is what people are wanting. but i am kinda like you.I would like to see people mention something else than Fulda Gap.We are going to be playing a COldWar/Afganistan campaign.Mainly for the forces we are playing and not wanting to be playing Europe.Hell even a FOrtress America would be kewl.like the World in Conflict Video game.

Korea would be a good choice.

I've been looking at the Suez crisis and there was a hell of a lot action there, so that's a possibility.

The Sino-Japanese war is another I'd like to see. I can't say I've ever seen Chinese infantry from that era on sale anywhere.

Korea would make sense of the unusual choice of late war plastic tanks (Comets and Pershings).

I'd like to see them do Russian Civil War.

I think the Comet was already out of service by the time of Korea. The Centurion was the standard British tank by then.

I'd quite like to see plastic Easy Eight's as they would be usable for both WW2 and Korea.

They'd be useful for 6 Day War as well. Given that some of the work sas been done with 6 Day War I think that Yom Kippur may be the next new period.

My source who told me about the FoaN release said that 6 Day War would get some plastics.

Lucius, Spiggott, the more I look at Korea, the more sense it makes, and not just for the tanks that were made.

Take the Chinese for example. New Chinese infantry sets could easily be supplemented by all the existing Japanese/American models to represent stuff the communists captured during the Chinese civil war (artillery and machine guns for example)

Also, I'm pretty sure the North Koreans relied on T-34s? so again that's stuff that most people will have to hand. Plus, I suppose certain Russian units could be used as 'advisors.'

I feel like cold war gone hot has the potential to be a lot more popular than Korea. Seems to be a lot of interest in it within the war gaming world at the moment. Is CWGH kinda a new trend or have I just gone unnoticing it till now?

Anywhoo, a box of BF plastic Brits will surely be coming my way this year.

I remember playing Cold War games in the mid 90's, so it's not a brand new thing.

Sounds interesting.

I wonder if we'll ever see a war on terror game with the FOW rule set; it would be interesting, especially seeing what they'd do with spec-ops and how many countries are involved.

The old RPG Company. GAmes Designer workshop was based in my area, besides Twlight they also made the Travelller rpg. They also made rules for minatures,Command decision for example quite a few popular rules,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Designers%27_Workshop

A War on Terror game is somewhat iffy. While there have been engagements at the scale represented by Flames of War, the majority of them have been at lower levels. A game like Force on Force or Bolt Action is right around the level that you probably want. And Force on Force has rules that simulate the somewhat enthusiastic but unreliable nature of undisciplined irregular units.

As for Cold War Gone Hot games, there have been a some. Micro Armor, Fistful of Tows, Cold War Commander, and others all come to mind. But afaik, none of them have the same organizational scale as Flames of War (or as I alternately like to call it, "Steel Panthers Scale", as some historical gamers get a bit... agitated... when Flames of War comes up). The one exception off the top of my head is Sabre Squadron, which is still in playtest, and doesn't have a complete set of rules available yet.

I played with Challenger 2000. A rather convoluted set of rules from the days where wargames took two days to play as opposed to two hours. The. Miniatures where 1/300 ones from GHQ and Heroics and Ros.

I didn't own any of the kit.

From personal experience, this is true. I have tried to make some homemade Chinese company with rules, and I couldn't find good models anywhere.

Eventually they will expand to include the fighting in China and Burma. But I can always hope it is next in line.

Falklands?

Reasonably self contained, air support but not dominated by aircraft and missiles, little armour mostly light vehicles and blokes in boots. Decent sized actions but not massive..

Could be an interesting fit?

An interesting idea as I could imagine it fitting the ruleset but I can't see there being much of a market for it. I'd imagine there's not a huge amount of interest in the conflict outside of Britain/Argentina.

You'd be surprised. If there's one thing I've learned from the miniature wargaming community, then if it's in plastic, and has decent rules, they'll buy it.

I'd love to see Suez getting the nod for the next expansion, or failing that, Korea.
