So I may consider getting this army.
Blood Angels
Sanguine Priest bolt pistol, chainsword 61
Tactical squad (10), Flamer, heavy Flamer, hand Flamer x2, drop pod 210 x2
Assault squad (5), melta x2, inferno pistol, drop pod 120 x2

Salamanders
Vulkan (Warlord) 190
Command squad, Flamer x5, Storm shield x5, drop pod 210
Tactical squad (5), combi melta, melta, drop pod 125 x3

Total 1496

And I'm trying to figure out the most logical way to get this (if I decide to).
I'm building the army in a way that means I can play anything (so I can chop and change rules).
I'm thinking the best option might be:
Stern guard box x 2
Tactical squad box x 4
Custom build Vulkan and use the stern guard as command squad and spare as sergeants.
My question is will I be better off getting BA tacticals instead?

You'd definitely be better off getting a minimal of 2 BA tac boxes, since normal tacticals don't have heavy flamers in the box.

I know this is unrelated to what you are asking, but it may be important.
Why all the flamers in the Blood Angel's tactical squad? Just for the sake of fire, or were you trying to benefit from the Salamnader's Chapter Tactics?
Again the same question for the Assault squad; why the Melta? Tank-killing, or trying to benefit from Vulkan?

I ask because if the answer to either of those is "yes", he won't affect them.

If I sound like I'm being a condescending butthole, I'm not. Read my reply as neutrally as possible, please and thank you.

No it's just an attempt to maximise utility.
4 templates in a squad is a lot of possible wounds.
3 meltas is just upping the chances of taking out tanks.
I know they don't get the salamander benefits.

If you look at his list, the BA tacticals have a x2 at the end and the Salamander Tacticals have a x3.

Well, if you want BA Assault Marines, buy DC boxes.
They include lots of weapons, iconography, and whatnot.

For the most part, but there is a LOT of DC specific iconography on them that isn't really that suitable for a standard BA Assault Marine. Given the Blood Angels' blinged up armor, I would think a box of Vanguard Veterans would be better. The BA Tacticals box doesn't have enough extra BA pads to fill them up though, which sucks.

Thanks for the input.
Would I be better off getting, 3 BA tactical squads (20 tactical, 10 Assault), 2 Sternguard (5 Command, 5 sergeant), 1 Tactical (10 Tactical).

If I intersperse the sergeants I have enough bodies.

I'm thinking how to get enough weapons as much as anything.

I'll need at least
4 hand flamers
7 flamers
2 heavy flamers
2 inferno pistols
7 meltaguns
3 combi-meltaguns

£163 just for these. wow.
then £180 for pods,
Maybe I'll space it out, lol.

Is it even worth trying to build this list or is it just a poor list?

Metal Bawkses!!!!

Sorry.

No, really, the new tactical boxes seem to be a treasure chest and the sternguard kits are also full of good bitz.

Still you might want to consider the metal boxes for at least some squads. they are more reliable as a means of delivery than just dropping your guys from outer space..
