Just curious if anyone here still plays it,

Been considering playing it again if the delay was gone that was there at the start.

I've been playing it, and for the most part enjoying it. Unfortunately, I think my system specs are a bit low for the game, which causes problems with some of the content. But I find the game enjoyable. And it's quite popular with players. The rumor is that the game is the only reason why Square-Enix is currently in the black.

I'm not sure what you mean by the delay at the start.

I think OP refers to the user interface lag issues that plagued the game at launch. It took forever to get the interface to do anything and was so bad they had to heavily re-work the game before giving it a second launch.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

If he's referencing a 1.0 issue, then it's long been dealt with. The 2.0 release was a complete overhaul - and in fact in some ways could be argued to be an entirely different (albeit similar) and much better game. I played 1.0, played off and on during the free period, and then really picked it up again when SE did their big recruitment effort several months before the 1.0 servers came down. The game was massively improved even at that point - and 2.0 was a similar leap in quality and enjoyment. The 2.0 game runs on a completely different engine (which is one of the reasons why they had to bring the servers down for so long). And Yoshi, the current FFXIV head, has noted some of the issues that the new engine corrected during presentations at conferences.

If someone played during 1.0 and hasn't picked up the game since due to the launch issues, then I'd strongly recommend that they resubscribe for at least one month just to take a look around.

Sadly 2.0 had the lag issues as well.

For example.

My PC is above and beyond the specs, along with my internet has no issues and i got the above at times in 2.0

Ah, the lag. There's a famous animated gif floating around of someone being halfway around the platform from Titan's Landslide ability, and still getting knocked off.

^^;;

I still have issues, but I've got an older system. I'm pretty sure that's where my problem is at. And it's still better for me than it used to be. But the people in my Free Company don't have any problems with it at all anymore. So it looks like SE cleaned things up on their end.

miskatonicalum, Cyporiean, and myself still play on Coeurl.

I'm enjoying the hell out of the game unfortunately no end game raiding for us as our server is essentially dead and our FC is literally just the three of us, we've invested a lot of time and gil into the server (i.e. FC House).

As for lag: I occasionally get spikes where lag comes and goes. The biggest issue of lag comes for me in Titan. Something about that fight just makes me lag just a half second too long and I usually die to a landslide :( My screen shows me outside of the damn aoe, but my guildies always say I'm still in it. Oh well.

I was about to check this out today, but now all of the servers are down for maintenance.

Servers were down for 3 hours for a hotfix. Should be good to go now.

Haven't felt the urge to play the past few days. Getting a little burned out because I can't get my butt in Final Coil because I can't even beat first coil, despite having decent gear :(.

Well, I checked it out after the patch last night and a bit today.

I'm not sure if I like it so far.

Like most MMOs, 14 suffers from the fact that the world really opens up once you hit the level cap. Since one character can feasibly be level 50 in every class, you can't just zip through a zone and do every quest available. If you do that, you'll run out of quests for other classes down the road real quick (this happened to me, leveling my Paladin, Black Mage, and Monk has been a little rough without a few quests to supplement)

There is a storyline to follow, and while it's a little drab during the early levels, it becomes better once you hit level 22, when you join a Grand Company and start with the whole world savin' shenanigans.

If you've got any questions about specific stuff, I can probably answer it for you.
