So after watching a few of Fritz 40k's videos, I've become incredibly intrigued with the idea of following the progress of units and their tabletop glory though out their games. In Fritz's case, he looks to acquire as many kills with the MURDER sword as possible in an effort to transform his chaos lord into a full-blown Demon Prince (which I've now copied into my own force!). Do you have any special units/characters that you look to use in an effort to achieve a similar satisfaction?

I actually did something similar to this when I started running a librarian. For every psychic power he got off, he got a point. For every kill with said psychic power, he got a point. For perils, minus 20 unless he got the buff, which was plus 20. If he died in a game, minus 10. The time he periled and killed his entire company command squad, I reset his points. Once he hit 200 I upgraded him to a level 2 psyker. I'm thinking about going for a level 3 psyker now (Ezekiel), so I might set him up to score 300 points (100 per level in case you didn't notice) before I run Ezekiel.

It's a bit complicated, and for the most part I'd estimate at the end of a game (on average it was something like 6-9 powers per game, with variable kills since I mostly used shriek). Took a little over a dozen games.

That's actually a really good idea. Another personal quest for me is that whenever one of my units defeats another unit in close combat and overruns them, I afterwards attach a single bit to one of the models as a personal "trophy". My Khorne Berzerkers have become pretty wealthy with plastic crack

The dark behind the eyes.

I had a particular Lord Commissar who had an amusing kill tally - including 3 Terminators and a Dreadknight. The 3 terminators were a particular joy because he killed all 3 in a single round.

I might also start doing something like this with my DE Haemonculi.

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

I used to get bunches of spare heads from the various armies. When I would win against an opponent, I would paint a head to look like his commander and hang it from a small chain off a land raider in my army that was the personal transport of my captain. It was a running thing in my group, and I also started painting spare helmets to match my army to offer to an opponent when I lost.

Unfortunately that land raider was lost with most of my army a few years ago when my hot water tank popped. I do plan on starting it up again. Now that challenges are a thing, maybe I'll do it to represent challenges he has won.

Behind you

One of my terminators managed this. He killed Ragnar blackmane, a whole squad of orc boyz and also killed Gazzy in CC.

He's got a lot of plastic trophies on his base.

I'd like to do this, but it's not as easy to promote a Tau. They go between very different model types.

I imagine a Marine would be possible. you could start off as a low level guy and build up to a chapter master relatively easily, you just change arms and/or legs (being marines are fairly modular).

I did have a Wolf Guard Battle Leader get promoted to Wolf Lord after he singlehandedly smacked down aWarboss and his Nob bodyguard over a few rounds of combat.

I run narrative campaigns with my friends and the winner always gets a bit from the loser. Usually this means the leading IC gets a weapon or head from the enemy to wield in battle as a trophy

Since I play nids, this is a bit harder. I may follow what others have done and add bits from any HQs or warlords that my tyrants kill to their bases.
But in general, nids fit the faceless hoard feel a lot better.
