With the end times rules this is just an idea I've been mulling over while doing my wood elves for something of
a completely different play style.

Opinion's on its viability at being able to win games, not necessarily being tournament winning competitive
would be really nice also.

A few queries first.

What would you cut to make the list legal at 1500pts and why?
Ironbreakers or Hammerers and why?

Things to consider.
The front rank of the Ironbreakers or Hammerrers will concists of 4 characters.
[Lord on bearers][Thane][Thane][ThaneBSB]

This front rank has a combined value of

Wounds: 15
Attacks: 15 +2 (bearers)
Toughness: avg 6, lord 7
Save: avg 2+, lord 1+

Why thanes over Lords?
I noticed that for each of my current thanes that come in
at one toughness higher then a lord, same wounds, same attacks, wards etc
and a higher armor save equals around the same pointage give of take
1 - 5pts to that of a naked lord.

Placements
Runelord is in with the ironbreakers/hammerers and lords & heroes giving
them all armor piercings and mr2
Engineers sit on the Organ guns at a +2 to hit, reroll a artillary dice each.

Isn't this illegal? I thought command had to sit in the front rank, would displace chars to do so, and Make Way only allows you to displace Rank and file. Unless you are brettonians with their special rules.

Characters take priority when being placed. The unit's command has to be as far forward as possible but if a character is placed before it then the command has to go behind.

The only one that really must be in the front rank is the BSB as far as I'm aware.

Someone could probably explain this a bit better then me at the minute.

I mentioned the same thing in another post, and seems like I'm wrong there. Carry on!

That being said: I theorize that enemies will just charge the quarrelers/organ guns, and ignore your character star. If you want to make this viable, I'd recommend Groth one eye hammerers, so your surviving quarrellers are stubborn, which will enable your countercharge with the char-star.

Depending on your meta, a 2nd cannon may be more important than a 2nd organ gun. Gyros are a lotta fun for flame templates and to give your gunline longer to shoot.

Yeah, the points cost of dwarves makes me sad because they have some really nice stuff. I would like to have an airforce and the second cannon. Quarrellers routing is a problem I would have to see how they hold up. They will have the rerollable save and do have full command I could only see them running concistently if they get hit by a star themselves.

I might revert to running a 'normal' list and taking airforce and all the normal stuff for love of the models when the time comes but I'm curious to get opinions on this idea.

With the addition of 50% to lords with the end times I don't really see many people making use of the new rules. Granted because it can make people really hate you. I.e double frostheart phoenix, double hydra, malekith etc.

Different Metas I suppose. My FLGS is all about the new char % and end times lists, so I'm routinely facing twin bloodthirsters, Nurgle Prince plus 3++ Tzeentch Disclord, 4x terrorgheists, etc.

I go to the other extreme to fight it. I'm currently running 60 poison gladeguard and 80 white lions/executioners. I theorize that xbow spam plus cannons can take off the large things fairly well. But if something makes contact its nice to not lose big chunks of your army at once.

Just letting you know, the Rune of Stone doesn't stack- it can only be put on armour once, though it's not subject to the Rule of Pride.
