Everything here is open to suggestion, just looking to make up some fluffy background to my rust scheme necron army which I am slowly falling in love with after 6 years of playing Imperials.

Dynasty Name: ???
Overlord: ???

Background:
- This dynasty's crown world was in the path of a Nurgle plight crusade, while the infestation caused the Necrons to stir the aftermath resulted in a slow creeping rust which has infected all the Necrons.

- The rust is particular in two ways. A) it ability to spread over Necron metals B) has somehow allowed those affected to feel pain

- The necrons are otherwise fully operational, but the feeling of pain is a new stimulant that they have not felt in millions of year, something they now readily seek out. While they are not prone to killing themselves for the sake of doing so (the Overlord dose not like waste even if temporary), they do not fret for new and creative methods of death at the hands of their enemies... on the contrary they look forward to it.

- They have the goal of spreading this rust to the other Necron dynasties, to show them the truth... or move them closer to he realization of having some sort of sensation.

- They have a love/hate relationship with both Nurgle and the Dark Eldar. They view both parties are horehounds vermin, but with knowledge that they can gain to further their own goals.

- Since most of the rank and file necrons want to express their pain but do not remember their own voices, they record and playback the most recent pain cries that they have inflicted on others... the result is somewhat moral breaking for those to hear the cries of their loved ones played back to them from the advancing necrons hordes.

Thoughts?

I like it, whilst necrons are usually very resilient to warp based anomalies and likely engineered the pylons on cadia to keep the eye in check its a nice little twist on the necron approach. Something oddly haunting about the basic necron warrior in the dynasty, stripped of all of their memories and souls and possiblly in constant agony when they are during self repair. Would this not perhaps make the Overlord/Sentient necrons more cautious instead of seeking out pain? A run of the mill overlord knows he can repair without an ounce of pain, but the sentient necrons in this dynastic will feel their bodies being torn limb from limb and then joining back together in sheer agony... seems likely to make them more cautious not less so.

That would be a nice contrast, a sane overlord trying to keep his sadistic warriors in check.

I feel like it'd be cool and still fluffy if it wasn't even chaos related at all, but some kind of malfunction or disease within the dynasty's living metal itself. Lots of questions to build upon with that.

Regardless I really like the idea.

I can always list a half a dozen possible causes for the rust but give no particular answer.

- time
- nurgle
- Eldar virus
- c'tan
- matt ward
etc

One of the cooler theories could be to do with the exact meods used by the dynasty to shatter one of thr c'tans, perhaps some kind of temporal anomaly was used to freeze it in lace during the shattering process, and in its cataclysmic demise there was an entropic backlash against those in the vicinity, essentially parts of the living metal distorting and aging at different paces. The last dying curse of a would be god, making the rust as much as badge of honour from the shattering as it is a curse on their very existance.

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.
