It's an easy to learn game that's reasonably fun to play, and that lets you find out once and for all whether Batman could beat Wolverine.

And the answer to that question is yes, yes he can; because he is Batman.

Also, minimal or no assembly required and pre-painted. Like X-Wing, you can open a package/booster/whatever and be playing with those figures within minutes.

It's not my thing, aside from picking up a cheap case of them on Ebay a decade ago and never playing the game, but I can see why some would find them appealing.

Hell, with the movie/show/game themed sets, I've been tempted to grab a few as stand in figures for other games or just to have little models laying around.

Heroclix is very popular in my area. I joined in for a while but got bored of the power creep very quickly. That and tournaments are really not my thing combined with the horrendous quality control of Wizkids.

I still pick up the odd booster occasionally. It can be a fun game when you remove the ridiculous relic and such.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

Don't forget ties to hugely popular IP which are already well known to the general public.

You don't have to explain to your buddies who this 'Superman' guy is and why he's fighting a bald dude.

Heroclix is a great wee game; pretty much self contained and pretty simple with plenty of options. I admittedly haven't played it since the Infinity range, but the starter pack comes with the gaming mat (square grid, so no measuring) and all the characters stats are on the base, so no rules/tables to look up.

I always thought the fact that the characters got worse as they took damage was brilliant too.

But anyway; super cheap cost of entry, quick to learn and play, superheroes.

Unless he says "SWEAR TO ME!!" in which case the world rejoices in unison as wolverine takes his head off at the clavicle.

Love the new batmans ; hate christian bale's "imma be spooky" batman voice.

Unless the bald guy is Professor Xavier in his wheelchair....

The Auld Grump - there are folks that think the whole point of the game is the mash-ups.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Mage Knight (WizKids' predecessor to Heroclix set in their own universe) was something that kept me wargaming when I was 10/11 before moving on to other miniatures games when I was a little older. I never played much Heroclix since it meant starting a new collection, but Mage Knight had collectability, a fun (for me anyway) game attached to it, and a certain tactile appeal from clicking the bases around yourself.

Heroclix is no longer owned by wiz kid from what I understand. I have some 1st edition models. Mainly marvel DC stuff back then. But from what I reas no you can field game characters and such other crazyness. Game was okay to play. You could lob dumpsters with he hulk (who got better as he took damage!!) but then the power creep ruined it for me as people would field lame characters and medics... why would you use medics if you can have the effin hulk/wolverine !?

Think I still got some heroclix kicking about Ill see maybe trade them for some warhammer stuff. anyone interested?

It's the parent company that changed.. and I love some of the changes that have been made since the changeover. Dial designs for one, and probably a major change for the better, so much so I sold all my old based figs, even the interim ones, and now only buy Heroclix with the new dials.

I have always found the game quick to pick up and play, and as a comics fan, its a win win. Although I tend to stay inside the confides of the universes.. something in me just can't do the whole Batman vs Wolvie thing.

Although I love putting Avengers up against X-Men, MoE etc,
and my Bat titles collection (my fave side of DC) has grown to quite a large collection of figs.

I played that game until a few years ago. I quit around Superman/Cap America/Hulk, right around when they released the double-Oreo bases. I'm almost tempted to get some of the new Flash figures because Flash is one of my favorite superheroes.
So much has changed since then I don't know if I could ever get back into it. I'm currently trying to consolidate my Heroclix collection. If anyone's interested in obtaining my Clix, pm me.

Currently playing. The resources are pretty damaging to the game and in need of a nerf because as it stands now, here is a tier list:

1. Teams with Resources and Possessors (new War of Light chases)
2. Teams with Resources
3-9. a long bunch of nothing
10. Everything else

But at my venue we're running no-tactics (no resources, ATAs, Feats) Golden Age and it is all pretty balanced and fun. Even some models from several years seem to be playable and didn't succumb to the power creep. Heroclix is steadily gaining more traction in Poland and we're hoping to host our first domestic Championship in 2015.

Therefore:
If you want to play without restrictions, get ready for a rude awakening or jump in with your own resource-driven, possessor-mad powerlist.
If you want to play at a balanced level, look for tourneys or venues that ban resources. You'll get a balanced game with really difficult tactical choices to be made and with a plethora of viable models easily reaching a 1000 or more, most accessible for 1-10 dollars on the secondary market (well, excluding chases - these still cost an arm and a leg).
