Veteran Knight Baron in a Crusader
|
So, I recently bought the Shield of Baal: Deathstorm box set, and I want to develop it into a full army at 1500 points. I'm still looking at the BA codex, but here is a list I think I'll want to build (any advice is much appreciated)
:NOTE this is a flamer-based list as I will mostly be fighting swarm Tyranids and Nurgle (I do have some non-flamers to deal with Plague Marines):
HQ:
Captain Karlaen - 160pt (warlord)
Chaplain - Jump Pack - 90pt
Elites:
Death Company Dreadnought - Blood Talons - Magna-grapple - Meltagun and heavy flamer - 145pt
Death Company Squad (5 Marines) - Jump Packs - 3 Chainsword, 1 Power Weapon, 1 Thunder Hammer - 5 Bolt Pistols - 160pt
Terminator Squad - Heavy Flamer - 1 Chainfist - 215pt
Troops:
Blood Angel Tactical Squad - Heavy Flamer - Plasma Gun - sergeant with Hand Flamer and Power Weapon - 190pt
Scout Squad - Sniper Rifles - Sergeant with Sniper Rifle - Camo Cloaks - 70pts
Fast Attack:
Assault Marines Squad - 1 Hand Flamer - Sergeant with 2 Lighting Claws - 125pts
Heavy Support:
Predator - Lascannon Turret - Lascannon Sponsons - 140pt
Stormraven Gunship - Twin-Linked Lascannon - Twin-Linked Multi-Melta - 200pts
Total - 1510 Points (I'm playing friendly games and they let me go 10 points over the limit, thankfully)
Terminators and Karlean in the Stormraven to try and take out the big bugs when facing tyranids or to go after vehicles when facing Chaos Space Marines.
Death Company with Chaplain running towards anything (I'll pick a target on the day)
Assault Marines running to any large groups of infantry
Predator sits at the back sniping heavy stuff with the Lascannons
Scouts deep-strike and shoot until they die (preferably on an objective)
Tacticals move up to objectives and hold them.
So, what do you think?

Angry Blood Angel Assault marine

Honestly I am not a fan of the TL LC turret it's over priced for what it does.
I would give the assault squad 2 melta for a blitz tank killer unit
|
Do you ever go into a fight thinking "there's no point giving it my best, I'll get another chance later?"
We only ever get one shot marlin. Life is one shot |

I have not bought everything, I do have the tactical squad (unassembled).
And I do sort of agree with the over-pricing of the Lascannon turret on the predator, but I prefer it so much to the Autocannon. I think giving the assault squad a melta sounds like a good idea though.

Ultramarine Chaplain with Hate to Spare
|
I think your points are off on the Chaplain.
The DC dread doesn't really need blood talons. If you're taking them you may as well go with the guy from Deathstorm as he's a troop choice. DC are good though the right amount of upgrades. However they are very squishy at such a small number particularly with no target saturation.
Assault cannon is hands down the best weapon for the tactical Terminators even if going against Hordes. It's great against infantry, tanks and MCs.
The tac squad has 2 assault weapons and a plasmagun. Which makes no sense. Go all plasma (taking a combi plasma or perhaps grav on the Sarge) or go all flamer and burn stuff before finishing it off in assault particularly given you've put expensive CC upgrades onto the Sergeant. Also if you're taking a power weapon on him then make him a Vet to maximise that upgrade or drop it.
Sniper Scouts never do very much. Great for objective camping in back field terrible for anything else.
The assault squad is expensive and won't achieve anything. 5 marines are easy to kill and don't hit very hard. The really strange choice being to pay 15 points for an extra attack by buying a 2nd LC when for 10 points you could get +1A & +1Ld. Why pay 5 MORE points for less? Assault marines aren't very useful in a BA army beyond 2 fast moving meltas.
Pred wants the fast upgrade being able to shift about 6" and still maintaining full firepower is priceless for getting better targets, avoiding cover saves and getting side armour shots. It is mandatory at a mere 10 points.
SR wants an Assault Cannon. It is statistically better against vehicles than a Lascannon and better against infantry too.
Hope this helps.

Perturbed Blood Angel Tactical Marine

I have to agree with almost everything Fling says. Here are my 2 cents.
Tactical Terminators are garbage. I know they came in the Deathstorm box but you are better off buying Assault Terminators. The Stormshield makes them SOOOO much more survivable. Plus You are running a pure assault Captain who would fit better with them.
Absolutely drop the Power Weapon on your Tactical Squad. If something that wants to assault them does they are all dead anyway. If something doesn't want to assault them then you won't need it.
I like Sniper Scouts...they are super cheap and can hurt MCs, tanks, and snipe out sergeants plus they camp objectives and I use them to protect my board edge. I wouldn't change this.
I know its being overplayed by BA players right now but for 115 points you can take a 5 man Assault Squad with 2 Meltas and a Combi-Melta in a Drop Pod that will almost always pop a tank turn 1. Much more effective use for them.
I can't stress enough that every Blood Angel tank that can take Overcharged Engines must. It is a lifesaver for tanks.
I always take Assault Cannon and Melta on my Raven. Plus don't put anything inside them. If you get Intercepted and popped its going to be devastating. Deep Strike the Terminators on their own and use the Raven as a gunship only.

If you're using Deathstorm, use Crassor as a Troops choice, not as an Elite 'Death Company Dreadnaught'. There is nothing stopping him from being a unit OUTSIDE of the Formation. Same with Squad Alphaeus. If you're keeping that stupid Chainfist, call them Alphaeus and get the free Preferred Enemy (Bugs). Otherwise, Assault Cannon IS the better choice. And that goes for everywhere.
However, I will say to keep the Las on the Predator. S9 will insta-kill the Warriors and other T4 bugs which Nids have a lot of. Knocking out a 3W bug in one shot is a MASSIVE bonus. But Assault Cannons everywhere is more effective for the rest of the armies.
I'd put two Inferno Pistols instead of a Combi-Melta on the Sergeant of the ASM in a pod. Adds another shot and 135 isn't too hefty of a price tag for overkill since again, S8 insta-kills T4.
However, on the subject of the Raven, add a Locator Beacon if you're flying it empty. No scatter when something drops next to it. Nothing like faux infinite cargo space.
