Hi! Great to meet another fellow Empire player! I've been making my own list for 1,250, certainly different but here's some main points!

-General on Warhorse is generally not seen as the best option sadly, as the Grand Master does a much better job at it all! White Cloak of Ulric and you're set!

-The BSB NEEDS to be tough! Ward saves and good armour is mandatory as he's holding that line together!

-Id say beef up your swords by 10-20 men at least so they're more able to get across the field!

-If you're able, make the Knight orders IC knights, +1 strength and with lances with +2 on charge is great, even better with GM!

-Leave Musician off Handgunners I think!

-Try swapping the levels between Shadow and Fire, shadow can really hinder the enemy to level or even tip the game into our favour!

-10 man Handgunners are best also, and never forget to have Hunters skirmishing!

-Whenever you wish to expand further, 3 man Demigryphs can be great with a musician! That and also a Hurricanum/Luminal which are great models!

Good luck!

I'll PM you the list in fact when I can so you can check over, it is quite a bit different, though built up from the battalion mostly!

YES, say like an enchanted shield with a dawnstone on the BSB, or some other ward save or seed of rebirth! Also, remember that stuff like power stone/scroll and dispell scrolls can be great! And if you have a wizard in a skirmishing archer group, he gets a -1 to hit! But throw around more armour beefs to heroes and ward saves and they should be fine, preferably armour, I doubt at this many points they'll be any MAJOR uper threats.

Also, doesn't matter about the GM model-wise, he can practically look like your general on the horse, as a general on a horse and a GM arent too different in appearance...Depends on the fluff behind it...But your call! Also, other ideas to consider when expanding the list further to say 1500, 1750, etc:

-Captagus
-Warrior Priests! Prayers are meant to be great!
-Outriders or pistoliers to just harrass
-Helblaster volley gun with bare bones engineer for the sweet reroll on miscasts.

Armour of meteoric iron for the bsb. Gives him a 1+/6+. Throw a great weapon on top of it, and you have a solid character holding the all important bsb.

Another cannon, because there's always another thing that needs a cannonball to the face.

More swords, if that is what you want for your anchor. Throw in a detachment of halberds for some extra offence (ideally you'll get a see charge, since you charge after your opponent via detachment rules.) maybe a detachment of archers for some chaff.

Captains let you hold the line, but warrior priests and their prayers let you dish out some pain as well. Usually one in your infantry block is ideal, though one with your Knights can ensure those lance strikes hit.

Demigryphs blend infantry. A unit of 3 can lender down a lot of things fairly quickly, between their three attacks each and stomp.

Helblaster with a master engineer to babysit it.

Celestial hurricanum for the extra power dice and +1 to hit for allies within 6". The spells aren't the best, but hey, more options neve hurt!

Steam tanks are pretty grand. 10 wounds, s6 and t6, can tie something up for a large part of the game. It charges for d6 Impact hits, with an additional d3 for every steam point you used. Moves an average of 11" a turn. And the. There's the breath weapon you get every turn...

Pistolliers are good for harassment and as redirecters. Charge them up a flank and gun for some war machines, or the sweet tasty flank of some side arcs.

Is there a permanent stickied thread for Chaos players to complain every time someone/anyone gets models or rules besides them? If not, there should be.

I just ran demigryphs for the first time yesterday and they are a great addition. Three without upgrades are cheap and can take on some pretty ridiculous units if you are rolling well for armor saves.

The BSB definitely needs to be very survivable, otherwise they will get picked out and mulched quickly. Giving him a 4+ ward or a good re-rollable AS is important.

Priests can be your best friend. They give hatred on the first turn of combat and have prayers. The prayers can be used to buff the unit they are with or make your opponent waste dispel dice as at bound 4 you can try for a prayer or two which can turn a combat in your favor while still leaving a good amount of dice for your wizards. Your opponent then has to choose whether they dispel your ability to reroll failed wounds in that combat or save those dice in case you hit them with a nasty spell.

One higher level wizard will most likely be better for you as you have a better chance to get the spells you want, cast those spells, and dispel your opponents casting attempts.

You are going to need more state troops in that unit. Twenty Swordsmen will die quickly and run away from most things they fight. State troops need the static combat res from more bodies to will or tie in combat (I know this can hurt, I'm not looking forward to putting together the 40 more halberdiers I have on my hobby desk - but then I'll have two blocks of 50).
