I've started to make my own army called the children of rot, but I don't know how to paint them. I'm not a great painter, but I do like the colour scheme of the Purge, so I was thinking of using black on them. Other then that I would like some advice on how to paint them. Thanks!

Wow, broad topic.

Nurgle Marines are a little easier to paint than some of the other color schemes out there. Generally, people paint them green, which starts with a black basecoat and working up to a color that implies rot.

Look on Dakka for other threads with instructions on how to achieve this effect. You don't really need to be a great painter to get something that looks good, you just need to understand basecoating, layers and drybrushing.

Really good looking plague marines usually have metal highlights on bolters and trim, and usually that metal looks rusted. It's a good idea to look for tutorials on weathering techniques for these parts of the model, they are simple and can make a world of difference.

Good luck!

I didn't really want to just do them like all the others, (me not being specific again, sorry) I was wondering if black was a good colour for plague marines, and how I could advance on it.

Black can be a good color for Plague Marines. I think the 5th edition CSM Codex has an examples of a PM painted black and it looked alright.

If you look at this thread, you will see some examples.

I think the process is the same as described above. One thing to remember is that, if you use black primer, still put a black base coat on the model to ensure even colors.

One thing to remember is that black is probably the hardest color scheme to get right. I have a Black Legion army and am always struggling between getting the highlights right and keeping the models from looking grey. Saying this as a heads up, depending on what direction you want to go this may or may not be important.

for black, I would go for a dark grey with some washes to darken/stain it, and then at the joints, eyes, bolts on the armour use maybe the typhus corrosion and nurgles rot technical paints to add the dirt grime and pus that a follower of nurgle is gunna have going on. Just a suggestion but I reckon that might have some decent results?

Alternatively, go with black, then heavily drybrush the edges/jointed with grey to lighten them, then use the technicals, only reason I say this is that on a full black im not sure if you would see much of the "rot" going on. Theres probably plenty of other tips other people will give you

Good luck!

PM, Private Message, Power Maul? Perhaps Plague Marine should be added to the hover-over

If you want your Plague Marines to look different, perhaps Rust them up with touches of bile/rotetc rather than having them entirely covered in green?

Edit; Never mind, in the link (above) is a black/rusty/marine P:

Thanks for the advice! I think I know what I'm going to do now. I'm going to paint them black, with bone coloured shoulder pads, and maybe helmets. I like it!

I'm trying it on Calas Typhon now, just wondering something else, I am going to paint a blight drone, and was wondering how a bone like flesh could be painted.
