Hey, I was wondering if there is an active group thats on DAKKA that plays ATZ? I was the Campaign Organizer for my friends, and wanted to bounce a couple Ideas off some people. If not I can go to 2 Hour Wargames Forum.

Like having game of 4 Active Stars Co-Op - The way I had the group was everyone had their "Team" but we all counted as a Group We each rolled for activation Vs Zombies and what not

Issues - Broke the game: I had 11 Followers the most out of the group and my friends had too many also. All the stars had multiple Backpacks 3 total. We made gear that would increase your attacks, 11D6 is the most I think.

I made an insane mission (the final one) on a military base, all of our teams spawned in area 9 and the zombies spawned on broken fences in areas 4 and 6. There was a Helicopter in 3 that we had to make it too. Long story short I ran out of zombies and started using Mage Knights - 400+ . My Friends and I where using our followers as a meat sheald and rushed area 3. I killed the Gatling Gunner (D8 Shots and 48" Impact 3) guarding the chopper With a BAR. I ended up saying the Helicopter crashed on lift off, even though I had a friend roll a Savvy test, twice (passed both times)

New campaign - 4 rival "gangs" against each other. also going from 28mm to 15mm to get more of a city and everything is 1/2 the price. Reduceing Carrying weight and only can take 1 backpack.

Any other Ideas would be great!

I am not familiar with the backpack item, but ATZ: FFO has rules for carrying too much. And leaving stuff at a safehouse means it might get robbed. As for followers, remember that every member of your groups adds to the starting zeds. With a star and 11 grunts, you are looking at an extra 11d6 starting zombies! That's close to 40 zombies on average. Not to mention finding enough gear to equip them. Don't forget that any gunshots/noises now immediately check for new zeds, so a noisy group can quickly be overrun. It also means you have to come up with 12 food supplies every campaign month. An easy fix would be limiting it to REP in followers and any followers who surpass the leader's REP either take over or leave to start their own group (take a Keeping it together- those who leave follow the new leader).

As to HtH, what do you mean increased your attacks? Weapons already add to the melee roll (+1d for one handed, +2d for two handed, more for a chainsaw- but its noisy).

15mm is my preferred scale. I cut distances in half, but you could also keep them unchanged and it would work. I like half because that makes a 3x3 table fit into an 18 inch by 18 inch area. HO scale buildings also work well with 15mm.

Thanks for the Reply!

For the HtH we used Kung Fu Books to add +1D6 for extra melee.

When we started each Campaign Day we would choose how many followers we would take, we had food collectively for all of us, and yes we had enough each day, never went to 1/2 rations.

More zombies = more searching which led to more food. We had a going tally of how many zombies each team killed and it was almost 100 per group.
Maybe we were doing melee wrong then. Lets say you are going up against 5 zombies, do you fight each one independently or all at once, because in the rule it said you can only fight 2 people at once then another one joins. If we matched double for melee it would end, till next turn.

For the followers we used the pre made ones from the back of the book, some came with weapons and other didnt. Also used the cards for FFO which had people with weapons in them.

When we established a base it took 6 hours to finally kill everything on the board. Took forever.

More zombies don't make more searches- that is the number of buildings. More zombies means more are placed at the very beginning of the game! Miss an activation roll and it can get bad, fast.

See p. 32, up to four figures can attack at one time. If the defender wins, roll damage and continue to the next attacker. If the attacker wins, roll damage and stop. If it is a tie, the next attacker is at +1d6 for evenly matched (remember, that is cumulative, so if zombie 1 ties, zombie 2 gets +1d6 and if it ties, zombie 3 gets +2d6 since the defender is evenly matched with 2 opponents!).

A Rep 4 with Kung Fu Books or a 1H weapon (+1d6 melee) rolls 5d v. a zombie's 3 and counts as having +1 success, so pretty good odds. The problem comes when you get a bad roll or two and start tying or, horrors, lose a melee. Remember that zombies get +2d6 against down opponents, autoeat stunned, and can turn stunned and OOF into zombies after the fight,. That can really sting when a ganger shoots a grunt and a zombie comes along from the noise!

Also remember the Zombie Frenzy rule which makes zombies activate better with LOS to people.

Really, zombies are attrition- eventually a bad roll gets you. However, if you start with a Rep 5+ Star, it's really hard to go wrong. It's the Citizens that are tough to keep alive, especially with their special rules.

For large scale battles, I think THW has a supplement for that- Mass Hysteria. Never tried it, though.

I didn't know that the Melee dice stacked when against multiple opponents! Would've had some one die or run out of Star Power.

What if there is more than 4 zombies? Like 5+, lets say 7 for example? Is it the fight keeps going with the 4 and if the Star wins "Consolidates" into the other zombies or does his turn end?

How many actions can you do in a turn?

Thought I read that you can search zombie bodies? Roll to search then roll to see what you get. So when you kill mass amounts of zombies then searching them all isnt a big deal.

We Stacked the Kung Fu Books, so if some one had a 2 handed weapon rep 5 (6 towards the end) and 4 Kung Fu Books, that's 11D6 vs 3D6.

I'm going to start the new campaign off at 3 REP and 1 follower. and its Free For All, Stars VS Stars. Should be fun, might be some alliances along the way to back stab each other lol.

You can claim any items that models carry- but basic zombies don't carry items. The searching rules apply to buildings where you may find items, people, or zombies.

The rules only allow 4 attackers at one time. The rest have to wait or go after someone else. So with 7 zombies and 1 human, 4 would rush in. The rest would have to wait. Resolving the fight, 1st zombie goes and either attacker wins (damage roll on human, then stop), defender wins (damage roll on zombie, go on to next zombie), or tie (go on to next zombie). Assuming you get there, the 4th zombie would be the last roll and no one else could charge into melee with the human. If the human activates next, he can either go back to meleeing a zombie or attempt to break off combat.

Stacking effects like that with "Kung Fu books" is very powerful and doesn't make much sense to me. A character's martial arts ability would be represented by REP. You could have a separate attribute, but having a findable item that perma boosts seems like a way to get around advancement. Maybe have it as an item that bestows the Brawler attribute (+1d6 melee) for the next encounter.

You will find Rep 3 is very tough to get started. Zombie Frenzy means they tend to activate first, which makes things get dicey fast. I generally suggest Rep 5 for newer players and 4 for those who want a more challenging experience. 3 is just masochistic :-) However, if you do a 3 and he dies, a fun way to keep going is to just take over a follower, or any other NPC human still alive on the table. If they survive, instant Star promotion!
