Here are some painted versions of the Gears & Mutants miniatures for my upcoming skirmish game. Gears & Mutants is an alternate American Civil War game played between 2 players with the Confederate and Union forces. I have been working on this in my free time for a few years and it is coming to fruition now. Kickstarter with lots of goodies coming in the next few months There will be dozens more sculpts that I'm working on featuring different mutations or steampunk parts that can be upgraded in the game.

Great concept art but all is lost with the sculpting, Not a fan, sorry.

I'm no son of the south, but WHY is it that everyone turns them into mutated monsters and the northerners are all bionic super soldiers? Do have to echo the above statement though, you have a grade A artist doing the sketches, but a grade C sculptor (I'd also like to say that I'd be a grade ZZ on both accounts). The sculpts are still very good, but just seem a little flat from the concepts.

None of the strange ideas we had about you involved your sexual orientation..........-Monkeytroll 12/10/13

I'd put you on ignore for that comment, if I could...Alpharius 2/11/14

I don't know what to think about this, honestly. It is...both weird and interesting.

I also enjoy the concept art style, but I agree that the sculpts are lacking. Good sculpts are expensive unless you have a good eye for talent and can pick up someone in or just out of school or otherwise inexperienced. You can always redo the sculpts at some point though.

The sucky bit is that there aren't any/many sculpts on the market that could stand in for these characters without a lot of conversion work.

Are you interested in primarily selling miniatures, or selling rules?

I find the conceit of the setting rather odd though, from the small bit I can see here. The Rebs are all gross, nurgly mutants and the Union is steam-punk?

You are entering a genre that has been growing more crowded, so I think you are going to have to put what makes your product different up front and center. What makes this game/universe exciting? What is unique about it? What is the story here?

Have you looked at what Ghost Train games has been doing? That's going to be a big competitor for you, relatively speaking. Ghost Train had their stuff reasonably well together, and I think their KS wound up a bit lackluster if I recall correctly. Something to think about, if you haven't already.

What are you doing in terms of manufacturing? Are you contracting out or are you manufacturing in house? Is the sculpting in house as well, or are you contracting that out?

Kirasu: Have we fallen so far that we are excited that GW is giving us the opportunity to spend 58$ for JUST the rules? Surprised it's not "Dataslate: Assault Phase"

AlexHolker: "The power loader is a forklift. The public doesn't complain about a forklift not having frontal armour protecting the crew compartment because the only enemy it is designed to face is the OHSA violation."

AlexHolker: "Allow me to put it this way: Paramount is Skynet, reboots are termination attempts, and your childhood is John Connor."

I am sculpting all of the greens from here on out, the first few listed were based on their art, Lincoln and a few of the others i made in 2010 when i thought the idea up. There will be a ton of models if there is interest in this. Its a quick game based on a d6 system. Its more for an introductory player to have fun with than an intermediate or advanced.

The best part i think of this all being in house to start is the low overhead and the production will almost be entirely complete by the time the ks launches so backers will get their pledges fast and can look forward to lower prices since I will be sculpting them all.

There are some 40K possibilities for me, though I'm not up for a complete new miniatures game. I like cannon guy quite a bit.

They certainly look MUCH better unpainted - if I were you, I would remove the painted pics and just stick to those!

The art is also amazing, but the painted samples... they are really letting you down, so I would get rid of them (and maybe have a top shelf painter show what one of these minis can look like in a pro's hands, and stick with unpainted pics for the rest).

The models look nicer in these unpainted photos.

Edit: Apparently RiTides agrees with me.

A tip: Hire a decent painter and a decent sculptor and these will sell. Otherwise, i really doubt anyone would be interested.
