Hey everybody! Relatively new 40k and Tyranid player. I've got a rules question about how my Carnifex's CCWs work.

In my last game, he had a pair of scything talons and a pair of crushing claws. I did some reading and it appears that he gets an extra attack because of having two CCW, but couldn't find anything about how the modifiers on those weapons affected his attacks. His scything talons have S-user and AP6, but the crushing claws have S+1 and AP2.

Is this the kind of situation where those modifiers affect all of his attacks, or affect one attack per weapon? From what I've been reading I'm beginning to surmise that it's the former, but I'd like to be certain. If this is true, on the charge he'd get 5 S10 AP2 hits on the charge, plus his D3 hammer of wrath attacks, which is... brutal.

Thanks guys!

Yes, on the charge he gets 5 S10 AP2 with d3 S9 AP- attacks.

With dual talons its 5 S9 AP2 with d3 S9 AP-. This is because of the Smash special rule that gives all CC attacks AP2.

Thank you! In your opinion, when would it be worth taking the claws? You do instant death if your strength is double the enemy's toughness, correct? If that's true, then you'd only insta-kill guys with T3 with the talons, but T5 if he has claws?

Adrenal Glands are a better option than Crushing Claws, because it gets him to S10 on the charge as well, but also helps him to be more mobile with Fleet. They're even good on Carnifexes with Devourers to give them some extra punch against tanks.

Claws have Armorbane. So if you want to throw the Carnifex at Land Raiders on a regular basis, it's worth NEVER failing the rolls. If you aren't throwing him at Land Raiders or other such vehicles, no, it's not worth it. Pick your targets the bug wants to eat and make sure they get there. It's not a 'Take All Comers' creature unless it's a Dakkafex.

T4 with Talons (S9). As was said, in general Adrenal Glands are a better pruchase than the claws - unless you're sending him after big tanks.

Oh yes, I meant T4, wasn't thinking quite clearly when I posted that. I definitely will take the Adrenal Glands instead, as I'm mostly playing my friend's Tau. Thank you, everybody!
