Subject: Warpath V1, V2, and Bolt Action?

Well it seems I have been intrigued by another rule set to replace 40k. Bolt Action has been a great game to me but the over homogeneous of the units between the countries is starting to take its toll on the fun of the game. With that said, I started looking into Dead zone, only to find a ruleset for Warpath. Now fluff wise I am not a fan really, 40k trumps most there. But in regards to the rules, I like them for the most part. I do not like the turn activation part according to the version 2 ruleset. (This may be replaced by Bolt Actions order setup)
Anyway, what have/do other think of the rules overall? Before o start to make the attempt to convert others over to Warpath is there anything I should know in advance? Thanks gents.

I haven't had time to play Dead Zone yet, but I fully intend to use my 40k figures to do so - along with the 40k background. Of course, my " 40k figures" might contain things such as Mantic's own Forgefathers proxying as Squats proxying as Forgefathers, so it's all a rich tapestry.
Point being that converting people (including yourself) over to DZ shouldn't need to include a whole new set of minis. All you'd need are the rules. Corporation proxy as Marines, Forgefathers as Squats (or Marines), Orx for Orks, Asterians for Eldar, Muties for Tyranids (or Genestealer/Chaos Cult)...

I use Marvel background in Deadzone, myself. As most of the people in this subforum have seen proof of. Lol. The universe is kinda cool, but it lends itself to your own universe choices as well, like Az suggested.
Warpath 3.0 is supposed to hit in KS form when they feel fully comfortable and able to make 100% plastic models instead of restic. I'm not paying too much attention to Warpath until then, but I do have a sizeable (150+ models) Enforcer army, as well as a decent (100ish) sized Corporation army. I...may have a problem when the actual kickstarter comes along. Then again, at that point I'll only need to buy specialist toys and the rules, so that might help a bit. Oh, and Plague. I want a Plague army. And maybe Asterians. Crap....

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Well, the Gates of Antares free beta rules have been released, which are based on Bolt Action (though only in the order dice mechanic). You can get them for free from Warlord's site.
There's also Stargrunt II, available for free from Ground Zero Games. Universally liked, as far as I can tell.
If it's mass-battles you want then I would recommend Warpath 2.0, I had fun playing it. Give it a try. The activation seems odd in the written form but works well. (Just activate one unit at a time, and only try for the desperate gamble when you NEED to)

One problem with Warpath I've found is that I often find that there is a new rule set upcoming. I think they intended on getting a fairly solid set out of both it and KoW, but it has taken them a long time to get either.
In the meantime, I haven't felt the urge to play Warpath because I don't like to learn a rule set that is going to change a few months later.
I really enjoyed the games I played, and to be fair it wasn't that hard to learn. So I have played games. I guess I'm just not as enthused about playing, knowing that through most of its life so far there has been another updated set of rules "coming soon".

I looked into Gates of Antares, just it was Bolt Action that was turned more complicated almost to 40k standards. I am going to try out Warpath 2.0 and see how that goes. The rules seem pretty interesting and I like the activation, not as good as Bolt Action but still good. I ordered Deadzone, so in the meantime I will try my hand at that, but more than likely I will use my 40k models instead. I like my GW models.
