I was just checking on pointsvalues on my latest purchase and noticed this...



In the picture there is:

2xRegular terminators
1xApothecary
1xChampion

AND

1xMaster of some kind...

BUT

When looking in the codex, that Powersword is nowhere to be found...

Anyone got a handle on this?

Company Master perhaps? All Company Masters are members of the Deathwing and so have the right to wear the terminator armour. Standard loadout is storm bolter and power sword.

Looks like it but since the DWCS is a option of 5 extra termies to accompany a HQ choice in termie armour, that would make me one short.

I think for the purposes of advertising they've loaded him out like that.

The fifth model is not a master but a deathwing sgt.

Looking in the booklet he is named as a DW Terminator Sergeant but that is not found in the codex either.

Really? I'm looking at mine now and he's definitely there. Just not as a part of the DWCS team.

Oh, sorry for being unclear... yes, he is but not under the DWCS entry. So, if I build him like that, will I actually have one to few to field a DWCS or should I consider him accidentally omitted and treat him as regular DW Sergeant?

Can the Deathwing Command Squad really not take power weapons? Seems odd.

You don't need them: you have power fists or lightning claws!

Is there really no other way to assemble them in the box?
Aside from Deathwing Knights I mean.
Could you make them all into TH/SS terminators, or do they have to be a mixed sqad?

You can make Knights, just according to Codex.
You can make regular termies and then there is a regular sergeant.
and you can make the commandsquad, only in this form I have an issue.

Will look at the sprues a bit closer later to see my options but it seems strange the command squad would have no leader.

Actually, there is no way to make a barebones Command Squad using the Deathwing boxed set: it's short one powerfist and the fifth storm bolter is left-handed. At the minimum, you would need to upgrade one termie with either a heavy weapon and chainfist or LCs/TH+SS. As for the fancy guy on the box art with power sword, he's just there to look awesome. As long as you think a S4, AP3 weapon is awesome

DWCS are meant to be attached to one of your HQ choices hence the lack of a leader. You'll find this with vanilla and Blood Angels as well.(do SW even get apothecaries or is that role taken by Wolf Priests?)

One terminator in command team can have:
Cyclone launcher
Swap storm bolter for:
Heavy Flamer
Plasma Cannon
Assault Cannon

Any DW terminator can replace his storm bolter and power fist with:
Lightning claws
or TH/SS

Any DW terminator can swap his power fist for a chainfist

One DW can take a banner
One DW can be upgraded to Champion with Halberd of Caliban (2 handed weapon)
One DW can be upgraded to Apothecary and swap his power fist with a narthecium.

Well it's good enough to kill a good number of things as well as carve up vehicles with AV10, so yeah pretty useful. The sword the DW sgt is packing should class as 2 handed lol.

its an error on there part the dwcs doesnt have a sargeant unlike any other squad and this has yet to be corrected. this is actually an error on their part in the codex and the box art is in fact legit.

they cant in fact take such a loadout normally but you could however think it perhaps as a box art that is ment to show you the cascade of models available, this doesnt explain why the plasma cannon marine wasnt on diplay as hes unique to the deathwing
